Chapter 322
Natalie felt deeply sorry. Apologetically, she spoke up. โSorry, before Mrs. Lestor moved in, the room was occupied by my friend. The wind was too strong over there, so we switched to another available room.โ
But she hadnโt anticipated that Jasmine would steal a child and extort Zoc.
Upon hearing this, Samuel immediately understood everything.
He responded, โHmm. Itโs alright. Over the past two years, thereโve been cases of child theft and extortion happening in this hospital. This island is surrounded by water, making it easy to escape. Now that theyโve stolen my son, we can catch them all in one go. Thanks for telling me this. Go take care of your children, and weโll leave the rest to the police.โ
Natalie breathed a sigh of relief. After thanking him, she headed upstairs.
As she turned, a cold glint flickered in her eyes. โJasmine, this time, youโve walked straight into your own trap. This woman brought it upon herself. The man just now didnโt seem like an ordinary man; heโll surely force her to confess,โ she wondered. Looking ahead at the hospital, Natalie suspected Jasmine might have some people here. It could be a gang operation.
But the police would investigate and uncover the truth. She could now relax and sleep well.
Samuel watched Natalieโs retreating figure and said, โSend someone to keep an eye on them. Check the validity of what she said.โ
Another officer saluted and quickly left.
When Natalie entered the hospital, she noticed an officer following her inside. She smiled slightly. Samuel didnโt fully believe her, but that was fine. She was telling the truth.
Jasmine couldnโt escape from this island.
Back in her room, Zoe and the baby were sound asleep.
Natalie gently lifted the baby and placed them in her bed before closing her eyes to sleep peacefully.
Meanwhile, Jasmine had finished a bottle of beer when someone knocked on her door. She assumed it was Madison returning.
She quickly opened the door. โAunt Madison, youโฆโ
Her words trailed off as she saw two unfamiliar men standing outside.
A sense of unease suddenly washed over her. Furrowing her brows, she asked, โWho are you? What are you doing here so late?โ
Samuel and his team rushed inside, shutting the door behind them.
Without warning, Samuel drew his gun and pointed it at Jasmineโs head, his expression icy. โTell me, where is my son?โ
Jasmine froze, confused. She stumbled over her words. โWโwhatโฆ what son?โ
โDonโt play dumb. You stole my son and are extorting 3 million dollars. If you donโt talk, Iโll blow your brains out right here. If my son dies, Iโll drag you to hell with him.โ
Jasmine was stunned. โThe child in Zoeโs belly is this manโs, not Jasonโs? This is a disaster. I thought the child was Jasonโs, but itโs not.โ
โIโฆ I donโt know what youโre talking about,โ she said, now desperately denying everything.
โFine. Then go to hell with my son. Madison will follow you to hell as well.โ Samuelโs anger flared. This woman looked so sly. When it came to investigations, he always used the right method for the right person.
The gun remained trained on Jasmineโs forehead. โDie.โ
Jasmine trembled in fear, suddenly collapsing onto the floor.
โAhhโฆ no, no, no, itโs not like that! Iโฆ I didnโt steal your child. If I had stolen your child, why would I still be here? I wouldโve run away.โ
Samuel noticed her phone vibrating on the table.
He glanced at one of his team members and nodded for him to answer the call.
โDonโt speak,โ Samuel warned.
Jasmine realized it was Madison calling. โThis is it, itโs over,โ she wondered.
The officer picked up the phone, and Madisonโs furious voice immediately came through. โJasmine, youโve ruined me! What the hell were you thinking? Room 408 is Samuelโs wifeโs, and you dare steal Samuelโs child? What the hell is wrong with you?โ
Jasmine froze in shock.
She tried to speak, but Samuel leaned in close to her ear and said, โSpeak carefully. If you cooperate, you might get a lighter sentence.โ
Jasmine knew it was over. Forget about money; now she was facing a long sentence in prison.
โMadison, youโฆ whatโs going on? How could this happenโฆโ Jasmine stammered.
โJasmine, youโve ruined me,โ Madison responded.
โWhat about the child?โ Jasmine asked.
โIโll make sure the child is taken care of. But if Samuel finds out that we stole his child, weโre done for,โ Madison said.
A murderous glint flashed in Samuelโs eyes, and he gave Jasmine a look, signaling her to ask about the childโs whereabouts. Jasmine understood and asked, โMadison, since itโs Samuelโs son, how can you kill him? You need to return the child, so we might still have a chance to get out of this.โ
โAre you crazy? It was my boyfriend who took the child! Do you want him to be arrested too?โ Madison snapped.
โMadison, your boyfriend is a criminal and a child thief. Heโs done so many bad things on his own. How does that involve us? You need to get him to return the child,โ Jasmine retorted.
Hearing this, Jasmine quickly came up with a plan to shift all the blame onto Madisonโs boyfriend.
โJasmine, youโve ruined me! Didnโt you say your friend was just an ordinary person? You stole the child to get 3 million dollars, but now Samuelโs son is missing, and the whole island is looking for him. If you have him return the child, thatโs basically walking right into the trap!โ Madison said.
โMadison, if he doesnโt return the child, weโll be the ones dead. Whatโs more important to you? Your boyfriend, or our lives? You decide!โ Jasmine screamed, desperate to avoid prison.
โJasmine, youโre the one who wanted to steal someone elseโs child. My boyfriend helped, and now you want to send him to prison too? I donโt agree. You figure out a way to return the child. You stole him, not us. If the police ask me, Iโll say you stole the child,โ Madison shouted.
โMadison, you canโt do this to me!โ Jasmine yelled. But by then, Madison had already hung up.
Samuel turned to his team and said, โGo arrest Madison. Donโt alert anyone else.โ
โYes, Samuel, Iโll send someone immediately,โ the officer replied.
Then, the two of them escorted Jasmine to the hospital.
The wind and snow on the island were intense. The strong wind carried snowflakes, swirling and howling through the air, turning the world into a blanket of white.
The biting cold snow stung her face like a thousand needles. Travel became extremely difficult. Jasmine, pregnant and without a coat, felt every step was exhausting. She cried the entire way, each step seemingly draining her strength.
When Madison was arrested, Jasmine was just arriving at the hospital.
Seeing Jasmine in custody, Madison collapsed to the ground.
โItโs over. Everything Iโve done these yearsโฆ itโs all falling apart. If the kidnapping cases from before are linked to me, my life is over,โ Madison thought.
The two were secretly taken to a room, and Samuelโs tall figure walked in, instantly filling the room with an oppressive air. He placed the legal documents in front of Madison, his voice low and hoarse. โRead this. How many years do you think youโll get?โ
Madison closed her eyes, remaining silent. As long as she didnโt say anything, refusing to confess, they would relent after 24 hours with no evidence.
Samuel watched her.
