Chapter 285

Natalie laughed coldly, her voice sharp. โ€œI donโ€™t even deserve courtesy from you? On what grounds do you ask this of me? Moreover, what makes you think I should give your son a letter of understanding?โ€

Layla said, โ€œNatalie, youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEnough.โ€ Maxwell, standing by, growled in a low voice.

He looked at Natalie, and she looked back at him. He was dressed in an impeccably tailored suit, and despite being over fifty, he still exuded a unique, irresistible mature charm that was hard for women to resist. However, the deep calculations in his eyes and the hidden malice were all too clear to see.

He spoke, โ€œMs. Shawn, my wife was raised in a wealthy family; sheโ€™s used to looking down on others, and her character is inevitably arrogant. Please donโ€™t take her attitude to heart. Ms. Shawn, I am sincere in wanting to discuss this matter privately with you. Please, give me a specific number for your price.โ€

Natalie looked at him and smiled indifferently. โ€œMr. Spencer, Iโ€™m sorry, I know you have a lot of money and you look down on people like me. Everyone knows that money is everything. But I, Natalie, am not someone who lacks money, and I will not forgive someone who wanted to kill me. Your sonโ€™s arrogant attitude was still trending this morning, and your companyโ€™s stocks are falling. What does that have to do with me?โ€

Maxwell said, โ€œMs. Shawn, my son is young and impulsive; it wasnโ€™t intentional. His brakes failed. Ms. Shawn, letโ€™s talk this over.โ€

Natalie refused to settle privately, knowing that if she failed here, Murray would also fail. He couldnโ€™t compete with Maxwell.

She said, โ€œYour son attempted murder; it was premeditated. You still want me to give a chance to such a killer? To give him a letter of understanding? Iโ€™m sorry, I will absolutely not accept a private settlement.โ€ Her emotions were high, and her eyes were filled with anger.

As soon as Layla heard that Natalie wouldnโ€™t accept a private settlement, a calculating glint crossed her eyes, and she sneered, โ€œMs. Shawn, Iโ€™ve heard rumors about your promiscuous private life, right? Youโ€™ve been involved with Maurice from the Chambers family, and also with Murray.โ€

Natalie narrowed her eyes, knowing this woman was adept at targeting womenโ€™s most sensitive spots. She was skilled at threatening and framing others, so it didnโ€™t surprise Natalie that she was now trying to tarnish her reputation.

Natalie sneered back, โ€œMrs. Spencer, those are just my friends. However, Iโ€™ve also heard about your affairs, Mrs. Spencer. Itโ€™s said that you like to keep young lovers. Thereโ€™s a young celebrity living at Cypress Manor, and a well-built, handsome middle-aged man residing at Starlight Residences. And there are other places too. Shall we list them all? Mr. Spencer is here as well, why donโ€™t you tell him everything? The one with the promiscuous private life is Mrs. Spencer.โ€

If Layla wanted to sling mud, Natalie would sling it back double. Before coming, Natalie had investigated Layla. She had several young lovers, something Maxwell was unaware of.

Laylaโ€™s face turned dramatically, glaring at Natalie. โ€œWhat nonsense are you spouting? Natalie, you dare to tarnish my reputation? What evidence do you have?โ€

Natalie watched as her furor grew, the elegant lady image slipping away.

She asked with a smile, โ€œIf you have no evidence, why try to tarnish my reputation? But, coincidentally, I do have evidence. Iโ€™ve mentioned the places, and I indeed have proof in hand. If you think Iโ€™m fickle, then bring out your evidence.โ€

Layla wanted to strangle Natalie.

Maxwell suddenly looked at his wife, a hint of murder in his eyes. Although they led separate lives, a scandal would tarnish his reputation.

It seems that Natalie is not an easy opponent to deal with, he thought.

Laylaโ€™s eyes flickered with panic, not daring to look at her husband. Keeping young lovers was not something to be proud of, and if exposed, she would become the laughingstock of Shagrity.

How does Natalie know about this? she wondered.

Natalie looked at Layla with a warning, her smile blooming wantonly, appearing arrogant and aggressively confident. โ€œMrs. Spencer, if you keep slinging mud at me, Iโ€™ll release those videos. If you wonโ€™t give me a way out, then none of us will survive.โ€

Layla was choked into silence, only able to glare hatefully at Natalie.

Natalie turned to Maxwell, her gaze cold. โ€œMr. Spencer, for murder, there must be retribution. I will be pressing charges for premeditated murder against Davian.โ€

After saying that, Natalie left.

Layla said, โ€œNatalie, donโ€™t go! You canโ€™t sue my son for murder. His brakes failed; it wasnโ€™t intentional. I can give you any amount of money you want, as long as you are willing to write a letter of understanding.โ€

Layla dared not let her son have a criminal record; it would be difficult for him to inherit the group if he did.

That boy canโ€™t hold his temper; weโ€™ll have plenty of opportunities in the future, but he had to cause trouble at this critical moment, she thought.

Natalie ignored her and strode towards the police station; she had come to submit new evidence today. She had quickly investigated Davianโ€™s phone and found that he had been plotting to kill her half a month ago, and he had been stalking her during this period. However, she hadnโ€™t felt a thing because she didnโ€™t pay attention to the gaze of people she wasnโ€™t familiar with. She was completely unguarded, truly not sensing it at all.

Seeing Natalie enter the police station, Layla panicked. โ€œHoney, what should we do? What about our son? He canโ€™t go to jail.โ€

Maxwell slapped Layla hard across the face, looking at her with disgust. โ€œLayla, even though we each play our own games, Iโ€™m just indulging in some extramarital affairs. I have a few women on the side, but you dare to keep men as well. Where does that leave my face?โ€

Hearing this, Layla felt as if she had heard the funniest joke in the world.

She gave a bitter, desolate smile and spoke in a sorrowful tone. โ€œMaxwell, who are you to talk to me like that? Besides giving me a son and daughter, what else have you given me? Why is it that you can keep women outside, but I canโ€™t keep men? Donโ€™t be so hypocritical, okay? We take what we need, and the most important goal is to put our son in the position of heir. You and I can continue to live our lives freely. If we fall apart and expose each otherโ€™s most embarrassing secrets, it will be harmful to both of us. The old ladyโ€™s use of inferior materials should be exposed at the right time the day after tomorrow; it will be beneficial for both of us.โ€

They both served a common interest, and even if she knew, she couldnโ€™t do anything about him.

He replied, โ€œI understand. I will arrange this matter; you donโ€™t need to worry. But you should worry about yourself. If your affairs are exposed, donโ€™t blame me for being ruthless. I wonโ€™t show you any mercy. If you ruin my reputation, I will ruin you, but I absolutely wonโ€™t let you ruin my son. My son is my only heir. If he goes to jail, you wonโ€™t have it easy either. You go and apologize to Natalie immediately and make her let go of Davian.โ€
