Chapter 193

Nick’s face went pale as he heard her words. It suddenly hit him–there was that one deal he had stolen from the others using underhanded tactics. He thought, ‘Could it be that they were getting revenge?’

He said, “Wendy, I’ll go to the company tomorrow. I’ll work hard to turn things around. Please, come back. Please forgive me.”

Wendy shook her head, pretending to be disappointed. “Time is precious. Every day you waste here, you’re losing multiple projects.

“And stop thinking you can rise to the top in one move. Take it step by step, and that’s the only way to build something solid. Now that Jennifer has Mr. Wayne’s support, it’ll be a boost to your business.

“I also heard that Mr. Wayne gave Vance a few projects. Maybe you should go see him tomorrow. He might throw a few deals your way, and that could fix the company’s problems.”

Wendy left, her words heavy with meaning. She thought, ‘Let them all come for the Wayne family. For the next few days, their attention wouldn’t be on me, and I would be free to pull the strings behind the scenes!’

Thankfully, she had been in the business world for years. Otherwise, the company would have long fallen into Jennifer’s hands, with several of their people already inside. However, now she was prepared, and the only ones who would suffer would be Jennifer and Nick.

Wendy agreed that people always had to swallow their pride, but that didn’t mean they should stop moving forward. Sooner or later, she would make them understand how terrifying the consequences would be for deceiving her.

Hearing Wendy’s suggestion, Nick didn’t get up to chase after her.

The next morning, Nick went to visit Colin. Before he went, he had informed Jennifer.

Hearing that Colin had helped Vance, Jennifer was furious. She thought, ‘Vance has finally been heading to ruin, but now he is back on his feet. Instead of giving the project to him, it would be better to let Dad have it.’

Jennifer immediately took Nick to Colin. Just as they entered the Wayne residence, Natalie received a video from Murray.

Murray: [Natalie, the Simpson family is still asking everyone for help. I’m thankful that you helped me back then. Otherwise, I would have been convinced and given them the deal.]

Natalie: [Well, let’s just say, you’re not entirely innocent in this.]

Murray had died once, and his greatest pain was being betrayed by the person he trusted the most. He had treated Jennifer like a sister, yet in the end, it was Jennifer, the one he had spoiled, who had taken his life.

Murray smiled after reading the message.

Murray: [I was pretty stupid, but don’t worry, I won’t let her off easily.]

Natalie: [I am worried because you can’t beat her.]

Murray might be mischievous, but his tricks were always small-time. For ordinary people, such petty schemes were unbearable because they had jobs, lives, and no time to come to hospitals every day. However, Jennifer had Easton, a powerful force behind her, and that mysterious man.

Natalie couldn’t understand why she had never met that man before.

Natalie rubbed her temples, trying to recall every man she had met before. Something about Easton’s way of treating Jennifer felt inconsistent, sometimes good, and sometimes bad.

Murray: [You underestimate me, Natalie.]

Natalie: [Sorry, I really can’t afford to think too highly of you.]

Murray was clearly hurt by that, but what he didn’t know was that the day of reckoning was fast approaching.

Jennifer took Nick to see Colin, and in the end, the two deals were given to him. Meanwhile, Vance got two projects that weren’t going to bring in much profit.

Vance immediately called Colin, and the latter said, “Vance, this is your father’s decision. He believes this project is a better fit for him. Aren’t you family?”

Before Vance could respond, Colin hung up the phone. Sitting beside him was Jennifer. With Nick gone, Colin held Jennifer in his arms, smiling in a particularly suggestive way.

Jennifer’s smile, however, was unsettling. Colin mistook her for something sweet and soft, unaware that she was actually coming to ruin him.

Vance stormed into Nick’s office and kicked the door open. “Dad, how could you steal my deal? You know how much I need these two projects right now. Besides, I’m getting married at the end of the month. Why would you do this to me?”

Vance had some business sense, but his temper was too bad. When things went wrong, he would always look to blame others, never once reflecting on his own mistakes.

Nick smiled and said, “My company is facing a crisis too, Vance. I’m your father. Couldn’t you just give me a little help?”

Years ago, to support his son and the woman he loved, Nick hadn’t joined Wendy’s company. Instead, he had let her invest in and set up this company for him.

Financial freedom was what allowed him to give his beloved woman a life of luxury, to send his son abroad for his studies, and to fund the company.

Vance was furious. He thought of Jennifer’s involvement and felt a pang of sadness. After all, Jennifer knew that he nearly bankrupted his company for her, yet she didn’t stop Nick from stealing the deal. Feeling deeply disappointed, he lowered his head and left.

Natalie was unaware of all this, but Murray, being quite smart, had filmed the entire incident and sent the video to her. When she saw the video, she was taken aback.

She hadn’t expected Colin to spoil Jennifer like this and even give the deal to both Nick and Vance.

Murray: [It’s a pity that my person was kicked out at that time and couldn’t hear their conversation.]

Natalie: [This is enough. At least we can keep track of their every move.]

Natalie sneered and thought, ‘The feeling of being betrayed by those closest to you must be hard to bear, right, Vance?’ Seeing him walk out of Nick’s office with his head down, she knew he was hurt.

Natalie felt somewhat relieved. Wendy, too, had come to her senses and started taking action against Nick.

The Tompson family has been in business for generations, and even Wendy’s mother was a powerful woman. Wendy was also a leader in the business world. Recently, she had been transferring assets, causing the company to fall into a crisis. Even Natalie was taken aback.

Wendy was carrying out her secret plan. When she acted again, Nick and his mistress would be left with nothing.

Natalie stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, a faint smile playing on her lips. She no longer cared about Wendy’s fate. She didn’t need her anymore.

Natalie lowered her gaze and began to ponder. Jennifer hadn’t entered the entertainment industry before. This time, she had made a different decision. Previously, with Easton and Murray’s help, her company had successfully gone public in just a year.

Natalie nibbled her fingers thoughtfully, wondering where that boy would be now. That boy was a talented hacker, wild and reckless in his ways, but his background had limited his potential. He was crucial, but she didn’t know where to find him.
