Listen to this chapter:

Murray shook his head, his eyes bloodshot. โ€œNope, still canโ€™t get him. Heโ€™s out of range.โ€

Natalie reassured him, โ€œDonโ€™t worry. With Valerie around, everything will be fine.โ€

Emma and Murray had to pin all their hopes on Valerie.

About ten minutes passed before Valerie came out of the room, looking a bit pale.

With a trembling voice, Emma finally asked, โ€œMs. Kline, is my son alright now?โ€

The room was thick with tension.

Valerie wiped the sweat from her forehead and said, โ€œMrs. Spencer, my reach is limited, but I can ensure Mr. Spencerโ€™s life is spared. Today was supposed to be his fateful day, but itโ€™s man-made and can be stopped from happening.โ€

Emma let out a relieved sigh. As long as his life could be saved, that was enough. She repeatedly expressed her gratitude, โ€œThank you! Thanks a million!โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t mention it, Mrs. Spencer,โ€ Valerie said. Then she looked at Murray. โ€œMr. Spencer, Iโ€™m leaving tomorrow and I donโ€™t know how long Iโ€™ll be gone. Judging by your appearance, youโ€™re headed for a serious threat in half a year, and itโ€™s going to be tough. I have a token here, and I personally carved the runes on it. Donโ€™t take it off, no matter what.โ€

Valerie handed the token to Murray.

Murray was grateful. โ€œThank you, Ms. Kline! How much do I owe you?โ€

Valerie smiled, โ€œFor the token and saving your dadโ€™s life, Iโ€™m just charging 1,200 dollars. You can transfer it to me.โ€

Murray happily paid the money.

Emma looked at her inflexible grandson, a mix of irritation and mirth on her face. โ€œCanโ€™t you bend a bit? Does your fatherโ€™s life come cheap? Transfer 3 million dollars to Ms. Kline.โ€

Valerie said, โ€œNo, no, no, I only take whatโ€™s rightfully mine. I wasnโ€™t the one who saved your lives. It was Natalie. According to your familyโ€™s fate, Iโ€™m sorry to say, in six months thereโ€™s almost no hope of surviving.โ€

Emma and Murray originally wouldnโ€™t have believed such mystical talk.

But after uncovering a lot of evidence, they started to believe Valerieโ€™s words, as everything was logical.

Natalie was very grateful to Valerie for the favor.

Soon, Murrayโ€™s phone rang.

โ€œHello! Mr. Fletcher, how is my dad doing now?โ€ asked Murray.

Kevin Fletcher asked, โ€œMurray, how did you know your dad was in trouble?โ€

Murray was anxious. โ€œMr. Fletcher, donโ€™t worry about how I found out. Is my dad okay now?โ€

Kevin sighed, โ€œItโ€™s not good. Weโ€™ve been set up and had our project stolen. They not only took our project, but they also tried to kill us. On our way back, our car was forced off the road into the ocean. Luckily, it was low tide, and when the car rolled down, nothing major happened. Mr. Spencer just got a slight injury, and I ended up with a broken arm.

โ€œWeโ€™re in the hospital now, and weโ€™ll head back after weโ€™re treated. Itโ€™s strange, though. The car rolled over several times, and we escaped with just minor injuries. The carโ€™s frame is completely gone. It scared me out of my wits.โ€

Murray stared intently at Valerie. If not for her, his dad would have been in real danger.

Kevin said, โ€œMurray, today was a close call. It felt like we had a guardian angel on our side. When weโ€™re back, Iโ€™m hitting up the church for a prayer session. We shouldโ€™ve been toast after a crash like that. We were damn lucky!โ€

Murray smiled, โ€œThatโ€™s great, Mr. Fletcher. Please make sure to stay safe!โ€

โ€œGot it. Heaven looks out for the good folks, Iโ€™ll send you a picture to show what happened to the car. Your dad and I just have minor injuries,โ€ said Kevin.

After Murray hung up, Kevin quickly sent the photos.

Murray gasped when he saw the crash photos.

Facing Valerie, he bowed deeply three times. โ€œValerie, thank you so much. You and Natalie are both lifesavers to the Spencer family.โ€

Natalie chuckled, โ€œMurray, donโ€™t mention it. Weโ€™re friends, and weโ€™re just glad we could lend a hand.โ€

'Always leave some room for others, so itโ€™s easier to get along in the future,' thought Natalie.

Emma was overjoyed that her son had escaped a close call. โ€œValerie, Natalie, you two always have a place in the Spencer family. If you need anything, please donโ€™t hesitate to ask us.โ€

Valerie and Natalie smiled and nodded.

Valerie advised, โ€œMr. Spencer, remember to keep that token around your neck. Once youโ€™ve gotten past the danger, you can choose to take it off or leave it on.โ€

Murray swallowed hard. โ€œIโ€ฆ will never take it off.โ€

Valerie smiled softly and took out a bracelet from her bag, handing it to Emma. โ€œMrs. Spencer, Natalie is a close friend of mine, and Iโ€™ve heard about what happened before. Thank you for trusting her. This bracelet will keep you safe and healthy.โ€

Emma was both thrilled and happy. โ€œValerie, thank you! Speaking of the last time, it was Natalie who helped our family. Without her, we might not have made it through the year.โ€

Natalie remained silent. She had acted back then to avoid any trouble from Murray.

She was well aware that Murrayโ€™s stubborn nature remained unchanged.

Valerie still needed to pack her things, so the two of them left first.

Emma finally relaxed and slouched onto the couch.

โ€œGrandma, are you okay?โ€ Murray looked at Emma with concern.

โ€œGrandma,โ€ Murray muttered.

Emma raised her hand to signal him to stay silent.

She wanted some time alone to calm down after todayโ€™s scare.

Murray stayed silent and got up to pour Emma a glass of warm water. โ€œGrandma, drink some warm water.โ€

Emma smiled warmly, โ€œYouโ€™ve grown so considerate. It warms my heart to see how youโ€™ve changed. Concentrate on your studies, learn the ropes of running the company, and be there for your parents. You can bring honor to the Spencer family.โ€

Murray flashed a charming grin. โ€œGrandma, Iโ€™ve been working really hard recently. Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll study hard. Grandma, see how awesome I am? Iโ€™m great at motorcycle racing too. I got first place this time?โ€

Hearing this, Emma became even more worried. โ€œThose races are so dangerous. Havenโ€™t I told you to stay away? Look at Jason. Heโ€™s disabled now.โ€

Murray sneered, โ€œThat family is so heartless. They got what they deserved. Grandma, you have no idea how terrible they are. They donโ€™t even treat Natalie like a person. Do you know what Jason did three days before the competition? He stole Natalieโ€™s design and gave it to Eastonโ€™s company, causing Natalie a huge loss. Jason, heโ€™s just awful.โ€

Emma sighed, โ€œLifeโ€™s a real mixed bag, isnโ€™t it? All sorts of people out there. Alright, you should probably get to the office. Knowing youโ€™re there eases my mind.โ€

Murray was just about to find a chance to deal with Jennifer, but when he heard Emmaโ€™s words, he dashed off immediately.

Jennifer was getting ready to film a movie and was often out and about. Tonight, she planned a dinner with Easton to create some buzz.

Jennifer arrived at the restaurant first. As soon as she stepped inside, she clumsily tripped and fell.

She screamed in fear.
