Chapter 150
Easton looked at her with deep, cold eyes. โJennifer, are you threatening me?โ
Jennifer smiled sweetly, winking at him. โEaston, how could I dare to threaten you? We are the perfect match.โ Her playful smile was genuinely charming.
But in Eastonโs eyes, the words that suddenly flashed in his mind were, โPretentious! The charm was shattered; he could see through her clumsy tactics at a glance.โ
โSo, since you returned, youโve been looking for ways to frame Natalie and drive a wedge between us?โ Eastonโs tone remained flat.
Jennifer found his words amusing; she seriously reminded him, "Easton, I donโt understand what youโre saying. The one who wants a divorce has always been you. Itโs you thatโs not steadfast; you love me, and thatโs why youโve always wanted to divorce Natalie. Why blame me?โ
She thought, โMen are always like this. Wanting both the one in the pot and the one in the bowl!โ
She continued. โIf Easton were truly resolute, how could he not trust Natalie and only believe me? If the Simpson family truly loved Natalie, how could they bully her with me? It all comes down to not loving enough!โ
Easton narrowed his eyes, deep as a whirlpool, leaning back casually on the chair. โYouโre right; itโs my heart thatโs not steadfast.โ
Jenniferโs expression brightened, and she smiled happily. His words were ambiguous, but Jennifer mistakenly thought it was Easton realizing that he had always loved her.
โEaston, I knew you could figure it out. Weโve grown up together, and I was the one beside you in your toughest times,โ Jennifer constantly reminded him that she was his savior.
Easton thought, โDuring my toughest times, it was Natalie who stood by me!โ
โYouโre amazing. You should head back; I need to return to the company.โ His tone was cold and devoid of any emotion.
Jennifer pointed at the beef and potato pottage she brought. โEaston, I specifically brought you this soup; you should have some.โ
Easton looked at the soup, which looked unappetizing. A flicker of distaste crossed his eyes.
He said, โNo thanks. Just by the smell, I can tell itโs not what I want. Jennifer, if you want to marry me, be as sincere as Natalie, genuinely offering me the soup made by the servant. Have you ever been sincere?โ After saying this, Easton walked away.
Jennifer watched his retreating figure, feeling very angry. She thought, โIn the past, whatever I said was delicious, even if it wasnโt, he would pretend it was. Now he wants to compare me with Natalie?โ
She continued. โCan someone from an impoverished town like Natalie compare with me, Ms. Shawn? Natalie doesnโt even match up to my little finger.โ
It had been five months; Natalie had been gone for five months, yet Easton was still unwilling to get divorced.
โWhatโs the reason? Has he really believed Natalieโs words? Or after Natalie left, did he remember her kindness and find it hard to adjust to life without her?โ she thought.
After all, in the past two years, Natalie had taken excellent care of Easton. Natalie relied on him for life, while he couldnโt do without her kindness. It made him temporarily unwilling to adapt and resistant to divorce.
She thought, โBut it doesnโt matter; I can help him adapt quickly. I must firmly capture his heart. I want Natalie to know that what I can easily get is something she wouldnโt even dare to dream of. Whatever Natalie likes and cares about, I will take it away.โ
Jennifer was still a bit anxious; Eastonโs heart used to be unwavering. A few years ago, when he was hurt and she left, she was confident that Easton would always love her and wait for her. She had grown complacent. But now, she felt she couldnโt grasp Eastonโs heart.
Natalie returned to her office and asked Luna to leave. She wanted to be alone, so she sat on the floor by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the sunshine outside. Yet her heart felt cold, with a faint sadness in her brows; those beautiful big eyes seemed empty and lifeless.
She hated living like this even more, especially the endless scheming. But in a world where there were people, there would always be strife. She just wanted to vent for a while, not to compromise with life. Even if everyone betrayed her, she must live bravely.
She thought, โIn this life, I want not only to live well but also to live splendidly and beautifully. I want to marry a man who truly loves me and bring my baby back.โ
Natalie felt something brush against her face. She raised her eyes and wiped them, only to realize she was crying. It was no use; her tears were shallow, and despite not wanting to cry, they came anyway.
โHuhโฆโ Natalie took a deep breath, looking at the high-rise buildings outside, and suddenly, much of the pent-up frustration in her heart dissipated. She stood up, wanting to shout, but the sound that came out was a trembling and choked voice. โNatalie, keep going!โ
Natalie cried and then laughed, feeling relieved. She thought, โI was just betrayed by someone closest to me. No big deal. Any people can betray each other for interests. Iโve been through so much in my past life; thereโs no need to be so troubled in this life.โ
After coming to terms with things, she went to the restroom to wash her face. When she came out, she continued to draw her designs.
The collaboration with the Chambers Group was imminent. Natalie called Maurice to tell him about the stolen design draft. Maurice was abroad and told her not to be too upset before hastily hanging up the phone.
Natalie knew how busy Maurice was, so she didnโt bother him further.
Nick woke up late today. After waking up, he saw the bright sunlight outside, and he struggled to open his eyes, still feeling very tired. For a moment, he was confused and didnโt know where he was.
Suddenly, he felt something wet underneath him. He was briefly dazed before becoming fully alert. He sat up abruptly and threw off the covers, and a strong smell of urine hit him.
โAhโฆโ Nick cried out in terror. Looking at the wet sheets, he nearly broke down. He thought, โIโm already this old; how could I do something like this? I wet the bed like a child.โ
โWhโwhatโฆโ Nick was shocked when the door suddenly swung open.
Wendy walked in, and Nick quickly grabbed the covers to hide himself.
Wendy frowned and asked, โWhatโs that smell? Why does it stink so much?โ
Nickโs face turned red, and he quickly shook his head. โNโnothing! Wendy, arenโt you going to the office?โ He forced a smile that looked worse than crying.
Wendy shook her head. โI went to the office but forgot some documents, so I came back to get them. I didnโt see you when I got back, so I came in to check on you.โ
She added. โDonโt you care about the company? How could you sleep this long? Youโve worked here for decades, and there arenโt many results to show for it.โ With this, she shook her head helplessly and left.
When Nick heard the door close, he let out a sigh of relief. He wore a mournful expression, thinking, โWhatโs wrong with me?โ
Nick quickly got out of bed to find some clothes to wear. When he opened the wardrobe, his expression turned to one of horror.
