Chapter 132
Dizzy from the pain, the man held the camera high with a trembling hand. He spun around in place before falling heavily to the ground. Everything happened so quickly that these men were caught completely off guard. They didnโt even notice anyone approaching.
Easton glared coldly, his lips pressed into a thin line, exuding a fierce aura. He bent down, took the camera from the manโs hand, removed the memory card, and handed it to Xavier.
The man looked anxious after his card was snatched away. Ignoring his pain, he struggled to get up and try to retrieve it, but Easton kicked him back to the ground.
โYouโฆ mind your own business and give me back my stuff,โ he yelled at Easton, his eyes glinting with a menacing light.
Eastonโs eyes were veiled with a shadowy look. โAre you looking for trouble?โ Easton handed the camera to the police officer.
The police came forward and arrested the five men. Easton looked at Xavier and said, โGo with them and find more evidence. I want to make sure they never get out.โ Eastonโs handsome face was calm, but those who knew him could tell he was out of rage.
Xavier nodded and followed the police.
Natalie said, โLuna, you go with them. I donโt trust him.โ
Easton trembled slightly upon hearing this. He turned around just as Luna finished adjusting Natalieโs clothes.
Easton asked in a serious tone, โNatalie, you donโt trustโฆโ
Natalie looked at his calm demeanor with a cold gaze, as if she couldnโt figure out why he was so angry. โRight, I donโt trust you. Iโm grateful you saved me tonight, but the card is in Xavierโs hand. Youโve always conspired with Jennifer to set me up, so Iโll never trust you. I donโt have any proof about what happened tonight, but I hope you have nothing to do with it.โ
Eastonโs heart throbbed with a sharp pain as he thought, โBefore I didnโt trust her. Now, she doesnโt trust me. So this is how it feels to be wrongfully accused. Itโs truly unbearable.โ
Natalieโs suspicion about Easton was genuine. No one knew better than her how significant Jennifer was in Eastonโs heart.
Luna comforted her, โMs. Shawn, let me take you to the hospital first. Then Iโll head over to the police station.โ
โOkay.โ Natalie was too weak to walk; she needed to go to the hospital as she didnโt have the antidote.
Easton walked over to Natalie and squatted down to look at her. Natalie lay there weakly, her eyes filled with distrust of Easton. His gaze paused as he was shocked by how she guarded him, and he spoke with a heavy tone, โNatalie, why donโt you trust me?โ
โIโm sorry, but youโve done nothing to earn my trust. Plus, you never keep your word. You said you wanted a divorce. I agreed, yet you went back on it. You followed me here and took the memory card. Isnโt that just to keep me from discovering the truth?โ
Natalie never expected Easton would come. Now that Murray was here, Natalie would have another helper. Though shocked by Eastonโs behavior, Natalie didnโt want to get involved with him.
She thought, โI was given another chance at life. All I want is to cut ties with Easton, save my three brothersโ lives, and protect Lambert and his hard work over these years.โ
โEaston, my kindness wasnโt paid back, so I let it grow thorns. The one who raised me, the one I trusted most, told me not to trust anyone. I didnโt get it then. But after being hurt by all of you, now I understand. I donโt even trust myself anymore."
โSo how can I trust you?โ Natalie thought, her cool gaze carried a hint of a smile as she looked at Easton, clearly signaling her rejection.
Easton furrowed his brow, seeing the tears glisten in her eyes. He didnโt say a word but bent down and wrapped her up, letting the police officer carry Murray.
On their way back to town, Easton drove Natalie and Murray to the hospital. Luna and Xavier went along.
Murray leaned weakly, growling in frustration, โNatalie, this medicine is too strong. I still havenโt regained any strength.โ
Natalie was just as exhausted. โIt wonโt wear off until tomorrow morning. Sorry, I got you into this tonight. Even though I was prepared, I still made you suffer with me.โ
Murray chuckled, his charming face full of gentleness. โNatalie, why are you saying sorry? You were targeted only because you came to save me.โ
Natalie smiled. โI promised Emma Iโd get you out. I always knew someone might plot against you, so I had people following you. Thatโs why I have evidence. I hope youโre not upset. I feel for Emma. Sheโs been respected all her life. If anything happened to you, sheโd be distressed. Last time, it was her trust in me that prevented Jenniferโs plot from succeeding. Out of gratitude, I did what I had to do. I hope youโre not mad at me for it.โ
โSilly, Iโm not mad. I canโt thank you enough.โ Murray tried to reach out to Natalie, but he was too weak.
Easton was sitting in the driverโs seat, listening to their conversation. There was a hint of fury in his eyes as he thought, โItโs no wonder the barโs surveillance was destroyed, yet Natalie had a video proving Murrayโs innocence. It turns out she had someone secretly following Murray!โ
Easton looked at Natalie through the rearview mirror, meeting her clear, cold gaze. Easton frowned. Her eyes were icy; it was something he had never seen before.
He knew Natalie had intentionally said those things for him to hear. Easton shook his head and thought, โThereโs a saying about alerting the enemy by rustling the grass. I had distrusted her. I witnessed everything firsthand but allowed Jennifer to bully her because I disliked her. I hurt her deeply. I donโt understand why I had been so foolishโฆโ
On the way, Natalie and Murray fell asleep.
In Shagrity, Jennifer was waiting. She liked standing by the window, looking out over the bustling villa district, feeling a sense of superiority from this lofty height.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated. Jennifer quickly picked it up, her beautiful eyes lighting up with excitement as she saw the caller ID.
โHowโs it?โ
โMs. Simpson, things arenโt looking good. Natalie was rescued and taken to the hospital. Our people were captured, and we saw in the video that Murray was involved.โ
Jennifer was furious, fear flickered in her eyes. โWhat? Who told you to provoke that big shot?โ
She knew Murray was not a man to be trifled with.
โMs. Simpson, they didnโt recognize Murray. Natalie had dinner with him tonight. They were both drugged and kidnapped. Donโt worry. Storm Alliance would never betray a client. Even if Natalie suspects us, she has no evidence. While Murray was out of the picture, we managed to snatch one of his deals. Ms. Simpson, can we make up for our mistakes with this?โ
