Jason was speechless. He forced an awkward smile, “Mom, that’s not a funny joke.”

Wendy patted his shoulder again. “Jason, it’s really not funny. Don’t neglect the bond you have with your sister. Cherish her. She’s the little princess of our family. Just pretend you didn’t hear what I said earlier. I also can’t believe your dad would do such a thing to us. Alright, I’m heading to the office. You should get busy with your own work too.”

Jason still felt uneasy. Wendy had been acting strange lately. “Mom, are you okay?”

“No worries, I was just testing you. Hearing how you defend your dad and Jennifer, I’m relieved. I don’t believe what’s on that recording either,” answered Wendy.

Wendy thought, ‘Yeah, after living together for over twenty years and watching him smile every day, it’s hard to believe he could be scheming behind my back, secretly poisoning me. It’s really terrifying. Sadly, even with evidence right in front of you, you still don’t believe it.’
