Chapter 91: He Looked Happy
โAs long as you live your own life and remember the skills I passed on, our bond wonโt ever break.โ
โYeahโฆ But now that youโre back, Master, I donโt have to just remember. I can feel you right here, on the other side of this chat box, with me.โ
Tilda felt a surge of emotions.
She had walked away from the net in her previous life and never contacted this student again.
But in this reborn life, she had returned, and with her return came pieces of herself she thought were gone foreverโfriendships, connections, the light sheโd once lost.
She and DJ talked for half an hour.
โSorry, Master. Iโve got to board a plane back to Cetherland. Something urgent came up at home.โ
โGo on then. Be safe. Weโll have plenty of time to talk laterโฆ Yes, Master.โ
Later.
Thereโll be plenty of chances later.
For DJ, that was enough.
His Master was back.
And this time, she wasnโt leaving.
Yvoria, a private airstrip.
Dominicโs assistant, Matthew Carter, stood at his side. Impeccable suit, gold-rimmed glasses, hair slicked back to perfection. Every inch of him screamed discipline and efficiency. He spoke politely, โMr. Jenson, the plane is ready.โ
โI know.โ
Dominic shut his phone, rose, and strode toward the jet with long, measured steps.
Matthew froze.
What he caught out of the corner of his eyeโฆ.
Is it just a trick of the light?
Dominic had just finalized negotiations in Lucien, securing a deal worth billions.
After hearing what happened back home, his face had been blank, his entire body radiating a cold, dangerous air.
No one dared get close, afraid of provoking the lion and being ripped apart.
Butโฆ
While waiting for the plane, Dominic had been holding his phone, chatting with someone.
And he lookedโฆ happy.
Just nowโฆ he seemed to have smiled.
Matthew couldnโt remember the last time heโd seen Dominic smile like that in public, with no family around.
It was like he had recovered a treasure he thought heโd lost forever.
That night, Tilda slept peacefully.
The Jenson family, on the other hand, didnโt sleep at all.
At breakfast, the air was heavy and suffocating.
Russell, Blair, and Howard all had dark circles under their eyes.
Kyla and Wade didnโt look any better.
Everyone knew tomorrow was the day of the trial.
The Jensons hadnโt even managed to find a decent lawyer.
Andy had driven them all away.
Their attempt to bribe him had backfired, leaving them humiliated, forced to apologize to Tilda, and toyed with in her palm.
Never had they been so disgraced.
And they couldnโt think of a single way to strike back.
Kyla bit into her toast, but when she saw no one speaking, her lip trembled. Her nose stung, and tears rolled down her cheeks like broken pearls, spilling uncontrollably.
No matter how hard she tried to hold it back, her shoulders shook.
โKyla, whatโs wrong?โ
Howard, sitting closest, was the first to notice.
Every gaze in the room snapped to her.
โIโm sorry, Howard, Dad, Mom, Wadeโฆ this is all my fault.
โIf I had never come into the Jenson family, Tilda wouldnโt have hated me, and none of this would have happened.
โIf I just leftโor disappearedโit would all be better. I feel so guilty, it hurts so much, because youโve given me 18 years of love, warmth, and comfort.
โBut my existence has only brought trouble to this family, made Dad and Mom suffer like thisโฆโ
Her voice trailed off.
She covered her face, gritted her teeth, and sobbed silently.
Her whole body radiated grief, guilt, and self-blame.
Howardโs heart nearly broke.
He quickly patted her head, trying to calm her.
โKyla, donโt think like that! None of this is your fault! Itโs all Tildaโs fault!
โIf she werenโt so cruel, if she could accept you as a sister, none of this would have happened.
โYou donโt need to take on even a shred of responsibility for this!โ
Russell spoke then, too, โYes, Kyla. This whole thing started because of me. If anyone is to blame, itโs me. You donโt need to carry this.โ
Kyla jerked her head up like a startled rabbit, shaking it wildly. โDad, please donโt say that. If you say thatโฆ Iโll only feel even more guilty.โ
โEnough. Weโre a family. Whatโs done is done. Stop pushing the blame around. What matters now is finding a solution.โ
Blair finally spoke, her voice calm, her eyes soft with pity as she looked at Kyla.
She turned to Wade.
โItโs almost time for school. Take Kyla and go.
โLeave this matter to your father and me. Weโll find a way to handle it.โ
โMomโฆโ
