Chapter 52 Nothing Good Ever Comes Out of It
Even though Russell and Blaire were middle-aged now, the heat between them hadnโt cooled at all. Their love had only gotten stronger, deeper, richerโso strong it made other people jealous just from watching.
Blaire pushed open the door. โHoney, give me a hug!โ
โHug? Forget the hug! Somethingโs happened! The court just sent thisโTilda is suing you!โ
โWhat did you just say?!โ
Russellโs gentle smile froze on his face. For a second, he thought he had heard wrongly, but when he yanked the subpoena from Blairโs hand and read it, his fists clenched so hard that the thick paper crumpled into a ball.
โDamn that girl!โ That ungrateful daughterโhow dare she sue me! She actually wants me to apologize?! If Tilda had no shame, Russell still had his pride. And if the news of the Jensonsโ long-lost daughter of 19 years suing Russell got out, the familyโs reputation would be ruined. The Jensons would never be able to show their faces in Slosa society again. How dare she! If it werenโt for me, Tilda wouldnโt even be alive. This is the worst betrayalโsheโs biting the hand that fed her.
โHoney, look againโcheck whoโs representing Tilda!"
โItโs Andy Saville, the famous lawyer from ND Law Firm in Jeselton!โ
โWhat?โ
Even Russell had heard of Andy. He froze, then quickly uncrumpled the paper to check again. It was trueโAndy himself. โWhen did Tilda ever get connected to Andy? How could she possibly convince him to take her case?โ
Andy was a top lawyer, his schedule packed for years in advance. You couldnโt just hire him with money and powerโyou needed serious connections. There was even a story about a long-shot chairman offering the man 100 million to handle his case. Andy rejected him flat and told him to wait in line like everyone else.
At that moment, Russell and Blair finally realized that they didnโt know this โbiological daughterโ of theirs at allโnot even a little.
Meanwhile, at Orica University.
Even though Tilda had passed Shaunโs brutal exam and didnโt have to attend his class anymore, she still had other required and elective courses. She had just finished one class and was heading to the cafeteria with Una when she overheard her classmates talking.
โWade took leave today. He didnโt show up for classes.โ
โSo the rumor yesterday must be true, huh? That he suddenly collapsedโฆโ
โYeah, Clive found him first and rushed him to the infirmary. His family even came.โ
โGuess losing his glory to his sister was too much for Wade. Heโs always been so proud.โ
โBut doesnโt that make things awkward for Tilda in the Jensons? She just got brought back and doesnโt have a bond with them yet, and now she crushed Wade tooโฆโ
โI saw Kyla at school today. A huge, muscle guy dropped her off. Iโm pretty sure it was her brother, Howard. Didnโt see Tilda anywhere, though.โ
Yesterdayโs cafeteria drama had already been buried. With Howard and the Jensons putting heavy pressure on everyone, no student dared to mention it. So, the truthโthat Tilda had already cut ties with the Jensonsโnever spread widely.
โHey, stop talking, Tildaโs right here.โ
As soon as someone spotted her, they ducked their head and hurried away. Tildaโs eyes narrowed, sharp with mockery. โPathetic excuse for a man.โ
Just because he lost once, Wade is falling apart, and everyoneโs talking about it. And this is supposed to be my brother? The same brother who once pushed me so hard and drove me into depression, to the point of considering suicide? The more she had admired him before, the more disgusted she felt now.
โCome on, Tilda, forget about the Jensons. Every time you deal with them, you get upset. Nothing good ever comes out of it. Letโs move before the limited-edition hot dogs sell out.โ
When they reached the cafeteria, Tilda and Una got in line. That was when someone spotted her and walked right up.
โTilda.โ
It was Kyla. Her fragile face tilted upward, her eyes shimmering like she was about to cry. Her body swayed slightly, every move designed to tug at peopleโs hearts. She was dressed in the latest limited-edition designer clothes, her whole look dripping with rich-girl glamour. These werenโt outfits you could just buy with money. They needed early reservations and close ties with the brand.
For the Jensons, that was nothing. Big-name labels practically begged to send them free collections, desperate to please. They would seize any chance to hand over their newest exclusives. Kyla didnโt have to lift a finger.
Every season, the Jensons made sure she was fully stockedโclothes, purses, shoesโall top-of-the-line exclusives arranged in advance. Russell, Blair, and each of her seven brothers would send her gifts one after another. From childhood till now, Kyla had grown up buried in luxury goodsโso many that they could fill an entire house.
