Chapter 23 Give Kyla a Break

โ€œBesides, we blamed Tilda without even checking the facts. Of course, she got mad and walked away. How could I just ignore that?โ€

Blair gave a bitter smile. She had no idea where Tilda went after leaving the Jensons.

More than once, Blair thought about texting her, but then remembered she didnโ€™t even have Tildaโ€™s number. Any messages she sent just vanished. When she scrolled through the family WhatsApp group, "A Loving Family," filled with cheerful chats, one thing stood out: Tilda was missing.

The more Blair looked, the more she thought, Have I been too careless as a mom? Is there anyone more neglectful than me?

But deep down, she knew Kyla mattered more to her. They werenโ€™t related by blood, but Blair had raised Kyla since she was little. Years of love and memories had built a bond. Tilda, her real daughter, still felt like a stranger after less than half a month together. The connection was nothing like with Kyla.

Still, the guilt about Tilda wouldnโ€™t go away.

โ€œYou know what? Maybe just let it go. Tonight, letโ€™s focus on talking about Kyla marrying my son.โ€ Daphne didnโ€™t care about Tilda, thinking people like herโ€”unstable and unpredictableโ€”were better left out of the picture.

โ€œBut Daphne, our families originally planned for Tilda to marry Preston. Thatโ€™s why Kyla said no. Now that Tildaโ€™s back, Kyla definitely wonโ€™t accept the engagement.โ€

โ€œWell, thatโ€™s where we moms have to step in. Since Tilda already cut ties with the Jensons, Kyla wonโ€™t feel bad. Iโ€™ve watched Kyla grow upโ€”sheโ€™s the perfect daughter-in-law. Youโ€™ve got to help meโ€ฆโ€ If it were up to Daphne, the engagement with Tilda wouldโ€™ve been canceled ages ago.

Even though she was close to the Jensons, she believed Tildaโ€”without a top-tier educationโ€”would never fit in with the Bells. Sheโ€™d only bring trouble.

Suddenly, Blair froze, staring ahead. โ€œTilda?! What are you doing here?โ€

At first, Blair thought she was seeing things. Tilda canโ€™t possibly afford a place like Sky Dining.

But looking again, it was definitely her.

โ€œWhat?!โ€ Daphne was just as shocked. Didnโ€™t Tilda cut all ties with the Jensons?

Sky Dining wasnโ€™t just about money; Daphne herself had to wait two weeks for a reservation, even as a Bell.

Without the Jensonsโ€™ help, how could Tilda get a table?

Tilda didnโ€™t even glance at Blair, acting like she didnโ€™t know her. That annoyed Blair.

โ€œYouโ€™re Tilda, right? Iโ€™m your mother. Why are you ignoring me?โ€

โ€œMrs. Jenson, watch what you say.โ€ Tilda finally spoke. โ€œWe have no relationship anymore. Donโ€™t rush to call yourself my motherโ€”Iโ€™m honored, but Iโ€™m not worthy of being a Jenson.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€ฆ Tilda, stop with the drama! Are you trying to hurt me? Iโ€™m your real mother!โ€

โ€œReal mother?โ€ Tilda let out a bitter, cold laugh.

โ€œIf this is what a mother is, then I really donโ€™t want one. Save your love for Kyla. I donโ€™t need it.โ€

Their voices drew the attention of Jude and Maurice.

โ€œHey, Jude, sounds like your girlโ€™s in an argument. Isnโ€™t that Russellโ€™s wife? Waitโ€”thatโ€™s your Aunt Daphne, right?โ€ Maurice looked confused. Whatโ€™s going on?

He didnโ€™t know Tildaโ€™s story, but he was sure Jude didโ€”Jude always dug up everything about his targets. Jude stayed silent, his cold eyes still fixed on Tilda. When their gazes met, there was a flicker of concern in his eyes.

Still, he knew she could handle herself.

โ€œTilda! Kylaโ€™s your sister. Canโ€™t you give her a break? Do you really think that just because youโ€™re a Jenson, you can steal the love Kyla deserves as the adopted daughter, and you can make everyone focus only on you? Youโ€™re so selfish!โ€

Blairโ€™s voice was full of hurt and anger. She never thought her own child could be so coldโ€”unable to accept a sister who wasnโ€™t blood-related.

Tilda looked straight at her, unable to fake a smile anymore.

Give Kyla a break? The Jensons must be blind if they thought I havenโ€™t done enough already.

Iโ€™ve stepped back again and again, terrified of breaking Kylaโ€™s fragile heartโ€”until there was nowhere left for me to retreat.
