Chapter 106 Deal With It
The press conference wrapped up.
"As expected from the Jenson Groupโthey're pros at shifting the blame."
"Tilda, want to push a little more? They technically did what you asked, but that last guilt trip? Kinda annoying."
"This is so obviousโthey're setting you up as the scapegoat to protect Russell. And with their social media team swooping inโฆ" Andyโs teal-green eyes were sharp, cold as ice.
Russell did apologize to Tilda nationwide, but the way it unfolded wasnโt what Andy expected. Wadeโs words twisted the whole thing.
By vaguely explaining the reason and taking all the blame himself, he flipped the narrative. Sometimes, being too direct only gives people ammo to attack you. Wadeโs move? Perfect. No holes, no slip-ups.
It bought the Jensons time and diverted the heat. Sure, the family couldnโt erase the fallout overnight, but this way, the damage was far less. A quick, plausible explanation was the best way to handle it. Andy had to admit itโRussellโs decisiveness carried the weight of someone used to power. No ego, no theatrics when the stakes were high. Cut through the mess, bow when needed, and stand firm when needed. And judging by how smoothly it all went, Rose probably played a big role behind the scenes.
If Andyโs client had faced something like this, heโd have handled it the same way. That was normal. What wasnโt normalโฆ Was that this time, the people pissing him off were attacking his best friendโTilda! Andy was ready to go full protective mode. He might understand why the Jensons acted the way they did, but heโd never agree with it. He wanted to hit back hard. He was already itching to moveโjust waiting for Tildaโs signal.
โNo need, Andy. You think I donโt know the Jensons for what they are? That we wouldnโt be ready?โ Tilda swirled her champagne, taking a slow sip, eyes sharp and unreadable.
Andy leaned in, intrigued. โOh? What did you prepare? Spill it, Tilda.โ
โThis isnโt something we need to handle ourselves. The Jenson Groupโs grown so huge over the yearsโsure, plenty of people play by their rules, but even more want a piece of the action. I just gathered some intel and fed it to them ahead of timeโฆ then I sat back and let them deal with it.โ
Tilda knew this small move would only bruise the Jensons a littleโnothing serious. If they played nice, apologized, and didnโt try any funny business, sheโd honor her promise. After all, Tilda just wanted to cut ties with the Jensons as quickly as possible. She didnโt want to waste another second dealing with those scumbags or let them ruin her life.
But deep down, she knew it wasnโt going to happen. The Jensons would never let go of their so-called โtraitor.โ No way theyโd take the blame or let her off the hookโtheyโd just keep twisting the story against her. Since thatโs the case, Tilda decided to have a little fun. Time to teach the Jensons exactly what โoverestimating yourselfโ looked like.
โTilda, youโre brilliant! Using them against each other like this? Genius!โ Andyโs lips curved into a grin, his voice practically buzzing. Of courseโmess with the Queen and think they could walk away unscathed? Not a chance.
Night fell.
Dominic and Howard still hadnโt left. They were quietly coordinating, directing the narrative, trying to minimize the fallout.
"Howard, things are mostly under control now. You can head home.โ
โNo, Dominic. Iโll stay a little longerโsee if thereโs anything else I can do to help. After all, this mess has gone this far, and I feel partly responsible.โ Howard had finally let go of blaming himself for everything. He knew that carrying all the weight would only hold him back.
Still, he felt obligated to give this his allโnot just for the family, but also because of the one time heโd shown mercy and hadnโt checked Tildaโs phone. Even if Dominic insisted that checking it wouldnโt have made a differenceโTildaโs skills were extraordinaryโHoward knew that if he had, it might have spared Dominic such an embarrassing mess.
Dominic knew Howard wellโhot-headed, yes, but with a sense of responsibility second to none. He didnโt stop him, just patted his shoulder in silent approval.
Another half hour passed. By then, the familyโs social media team had completely flipped the narrative. At the same time, the Jenson Group was pressuring major media outlets. They buried all the negative trending posts and made sure the headlines focused on Russell and Wadeโs apologies. For Russell and Wade, it wasnโt exactly flatteringโbut it was far better than letting the scandal spiral out of control.
