Chapter 103 I Have To Do It
Kyla turned and threw herself into Wadeโs arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Wade had no idea how to face her or how to deal with the guilt he felt toward Tilda.
But in this moment, all he could do was pat her back and whisper comfort.
Before long, Russell and the others emerged from the study.
Howard rushed to the stairs, nerves tight. โDad, how is it?โ
Wade and Kyla followed close behind.
โThereโs a way,โ Russell said gravely, locking eyes with Wade. โBut Iโll need your cooperation.โ
From the back, Blairโs eyes flickered with pity.
โMe?โ
Wade froze, and then a possibility hit him.
Meanwhile, Andy and Tilda were at the Maple Hotel.
โCheers!โ
They clinked champagne glasses, celebrating a victory already locked in.
Just as Andy drained his glass, his phone buzzed.
He answered, spoke a few words, then hung up.
โTilda, you called it! The Jenson Group is holding a press conference.
โTheyโre probably gonna cave quicklyโstop the stock from crashing, calm everyone down.โ
With those two videos out, the Jensons were doomed in court. No way back.
To protect the company, Russell had no choice but to agree to Tildaโs demand for an apology.
Honestly? It was the smartest move he could make.
โSo, letโs just sip champagne and watch Russell grovel.โ
Tildaโs expression stayed calm.
She already had it all under control.
The moment word spread about the press conference, reporters from everywhere swarmed the place.
Cameras clicked, lenses aimed, everyone waiting for todayโs headline to walk on stage.
Backstage, Wade sat with his eyes down.
Helpless in a way heโd never felt before.
Russellโs so-called solution echoed in his head.
His familyโs pleading eyes were on him.
In the end, Wade had to make his choice.
Tildaโฆ
Iโm sorry.
โWade.โ
Blair appeared, her eyes full of pain as she looked at him.
Kyla trailed right behind, head bowed.
Wade drew in a long breath. โMomโฆ donโt look at me like that. Iโve already made up my mind. You donโt need to blame yourself.โ
Blair sighed softly. โIโm sorryโfor making you do the very thing you used to despise, even if itโs for the familyโฆโ
โDominic and Howard are already at the company. And me? Iโm a Jenson. I grew up with every privilegeโno worries, the best education, and more love than I could ever ask for.
โThis is my home. I carry Jenson blood. Everything I have is because of this family. And now Dadโs in trouble, and all it takes is one word from me to turn it aroundโฆ
โI have to do it. No one else can. Right?โ
He wasnโt just talking to Blair. He was saying it to himself.
And when he finished, he even managed a smile for her.
She opened her mouth, but no words came.
The truth was, even if Wade refused, sheโd still force his hand.
It hurt, but this was the only way out.
โWadeโฆโ
Kyla lifted her head, wiping her tears with trembling fingers. Her voice cracked. โIโm sorry. Iโm so sorryโฆ if it werenโt for me, if it werenโt because of meโฆโ
โKyla, this isnโt your fault. Itโs the Jensonsโ burden.
โIโve already made my peace with it. Please, just stand by me.โ
But looking at her, Wade suddenly felt tired.
Sheโd worn that face too oftenโguilt, tears, blaming herself for everything.
Maybe it was because of what he had to do next, the weight pressing on his chestโฆ but he couldnโt stand to see it again.
It grated on him.
He turned away, eyes shut. โSorry, Mom. Kyla. Let me cool off. When the time comes, Iโll take the stage.โ
โWadeโฆโ
Kyla bit her lip, eyes flickering with panic.
He feels different nowโcolder, more distant.
Damn itโฆ did I slip up somewhere?
Impossible. Iโd been like this since childhoodโpouting, acting pitiful. It always works.
On the rest of the family, and especially on him.
The old Wade wouldโve melted already, soothing her with gentle words, hating to see her cry.
But this timeโฆ he turned his back and said nothing.
The alarm bells in her heart went off.
โEnough, Kyla. Letโs leave him be.โ Blairโs voice was calm.
She didnโt think much of itโshe knew the next thing she was asking Wade to do was already pushing him past his limits.
