Chapter 532
The Wilson familyโs lawsuit against Kate was soon placed on the agenda. The implications were sensitive, and Aubree couldnโt just let lawyers from Turner Group or Bree Technology get involved openly. Otherwise, the Wilson Group could easily turn the tables and accuse them of scheming.
As such, she had no choice but to hire a top-notch lawyer to defend Kate secretly.
The evidence was rock solid, and Kate was sentenced to two years in prison.
As Kate left the courtroom, Trevor blocked her path. Even though heโd won the case, his eyes were filled with resentment as he asked, โWhy?โ
He couldnโt understand. Heโd treated her so well and had done everything he could to make her stand by his side openly. Heโd even put himself right in the eye of the storm for her. He wondered, โHow could sheโฆ how could she dare do this to me?โ
Kate, her hands cuffed, looked up at him with a mocking gaze. โDo you remember Katherine Robertson?โ
Trevor froze, confusion flashing in his eyes. โKatherine Robertson? Whoโs that?โ he wondered.
Kate, who had seen this coming, laughed. She bent over, her laughter wild and unrestrained as she spat, โTrevor, oh Trevor, I can only say that this is just so like you. Honestly, Iโm not surprised at all.
My sister, Katherine, gave up her education to raise me. She stepped into the entertainment industry to work. Who wouldโve thought her agent was a total scumbag, and you were even worse.
โJust because you said you were interested, she was practically thrown into your bed like some kind of offering. And even after that, you still wouldnโt leave her alone. Do you have any idea what it was like for me, all these years after she killed herself by jumping off that building? Every single day, Iโve thought about how to make you pay, even if it means killing you in your sleep.โ
Her voice was laced with pure hatred. If looks could kill, Trevor would have died countless deaths by now.
โTrevor, youโll get whatโs coming to you sooner or later!โ Kate exclaimed in disdain.
Her twisted expression made Trevor freeze, his gaze locking with hers as a long-buried memory surged up. He remembered nowโKatherine, the very first woman who ever dared defy him.
Sheโd actually had the nerve to try and go to the cops, accusing him of rape.
โYouโre Kristine Robertson?โ he blurted out.
Katherineโs little sister, Kristine. Heโd used her as a threat to keep Katherineโs mouth shut back then.
โThatโs right. I crawled up from hell just to settle the score with you, Trevor. And Iโve got a little present with your name on it,โ Kate dipped her head, shooting him a sidelong glance, her lips curling into a twisted, eerie smile.
Before he could say another word, the cops were already leading her away, leaving Trevor standing there with lost and vacant eyes.
He couldnโt stop the flicker of sadness that showed in his eyes. He realized it had all been a lie. Heโd thought maybe sheโd just been bought off, and that way, he could still fool himself into thinking she loved him and that sheโd only done it because she was desperate for money.
But no, it had all been a trap from the very beginning.
Trevor hung his head, emotions flickering across his face. โWhy?โ he wondered. โWhy did she have to do this to me?โ
After a long moment, he let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh as he thought, โIn the past, there was another fool who loved me unconditionally. And I drove her away with my own hands. Now sheโs gone, and Iโll never get her backโฆโ
The shareholdersโ meeting at Bree Technology went ahead as planned. With Aubree absent, Bowen, who held the second-largest percentage of shares, took charge.
Bryan had recently acquired 3% of Bree Technologyโs shares, just enough to secure a seat at the table. But even with that, his stake was still nowhere near as threatening as Birgitteโs. Yet, for some reason, he acted like he already had the whole thing in the bag.
Most of the shareholders who had already secretly sided with Bryan were practically itching with anticipation, as they thought Bree Technology was about to change hands any minute now.
Birgitte was also at the meeting, watching the room full of people with their various agendas. She let out a mocking snort as she thought, โTheyโre all so sure of themselves. But we still donโt even know whatโs going on with Ms. Miller.โ
