Chapter 512
โIs everything you said true?โ Carmen was so excited she nearly shouted.
Casper had come directly to the Wilson Group to find her. Carmen looked around nervously, then went back and locked the office door before continuing to ask, โYou mean the key to Daxtonโs drug research lies with that researcher of his?โ
Casper replied, โYes! Thatโs what Aubree said. All of Daxtonโs lab research plans are archived, and there must be handwritten notes from that researcher.โ
โCarmen, I could lie to anyone but never to you!โ
Indeed, Casper was a fool, a dog she could summon or dismiss at will. There was no way heโd lie to her.
Carmen already believed about eighty percent of it. On the surface, she looked hesitant and said worriedly, โCasper, I know you want to help me, and I appreciate you telling me this. But this is too important. Letโs just pretend I never heard it.โ
Casper panicked. If Daxton hadnโt disliked him, he wouldnโt have come to tell Carmen in the first place. And now Carmen wasnโt even grateful.
โCarmen, our family and Daxton already collaborate. You telling him would only strengthen the partnership. How would it harm our family? This is just preventing Aubree from reaping an unearned benefit,โ he tried to persuade her.
Carmen put on a conflicted look and, after hesitating for a while under his repeated persuasion, finally nodded. โOkay, Iโll tell Daxton. But I canโt promise what heโll do with the information.โ
Casper breathed a sigh of relief. In his excitement, he stepped forward and grabbed her hands.
A flicker of disgust flashed in Carmenโs eyes, but she quickly masked it with a shy smile as she pulled her hands away. โCasper, you should go now. Iโm still at work.โ
Casper asked, โOkay. Iโll pick you up for dinner tonight. How about that?โ
She replied, โI have to see Daxton tonightโฆ maybe another time.โ
Although a bit disappointed, Casper cheered himself up again, thinking Carmen was just trying to be better for the future. โAlright.โ
As soon as he left, Carmen went straight to tell Daxton. She was afraid his pride would make him ignore this, so she softened him up first. โDaxton, I think no matter if itโs true or not, itโs worth a try. I mean, I donโt want to see Aubreeโs efforts go to waste, but even more, I donโt want to see all your hard work stolen by someone else.โ
Daxton initially sneered at the news. He knew exactly who they were talking about, a fledgling researcher who had rejected his design and was thrown out of the lab.
He assumed that this researcher was holding a grudge after being kicked out. He then found out that the Wilson family and Aubree had fallen out and went to Aubree for revenge. Aubree, being naive about these things, bought into it, and now Casper was treating it like some precious intel to please her.
But hearing how worried his most beloved sister was, his heart softened. โI know what youโre saying, Carmen. Iโll listen to you. Iโll allocate some manpower and materials to run this experiment, okay?โ
Daxton added, โBut letโs agree on this. If the plan doesnโt work and there are no results, youโre not allowed to be mad at me?โ
Carmen laughed sweetly. โHow could I be mad at you? Iโm just afraid your hard work will go to waste. More options mean more chances. If youโre willing to try, thatโs the best outcome.โ
Neither Aubree nor Darius knew any of this. No matter how clever they were, they couldnโt guard against a fool from within their own side.
Darius never expected the restaurant he booked to be so private. Although the architecture meant poor soundproofing, each dining courtyard had a guard outside, preventing unregistered guests from approaching.
Unfortunately, Casper had special connections with him, so the staff didnโt stop him.
Aubree was in a good mood after securing the partnership with Darius. But she had more to do.
From Bowen, sheโd learned that the two human traffickers who abducted her back then were very likely hired by Alice.
Connecting this with Carmenโs situation, she wasnโt that surprised.
Her existence made it impossible for Aliceโs beloved โdaughterโ Carmen to come back into the picture. So she simply arranged to have her abducted. It made sense now. She and Bryan were both kids back then, yet she was the only one taken, while Bryan was left alone.
Aubree made a call to Kyler. โCan you talk?โ
โSure. Whatโs up now?โ Kyler answered.
โIโm planning to tell Ronald that his wife is keeping a lover,โ Aubree said.
Kyler was completely stunned.
He never saw this coming. Ronaldโs wife was Alice, and the lover she was talking about was him.
He asked, โWait, Ms. Miller, what are you trying to do?โ
Aubree replied, โRelax. Iโm not going to hurt you. After all, youโve helped me so much. Iโm not the type to use someone and then dump them.โ
Kyler felt slightly relieved. Everyone in Rithol City had at least heard of Ronald, even if they didnโt know him personally.
If Ronald found out someone had been sleeping with his wife, he wouldnโt let them off easily.
Aubree said, โIโll give you a large sum. Whether you stay in Rithol City afterward is up to you. I just need you to do one last thing.โ
She continued, โRonald cares about his reputation. Once I tell him that Alice is keeping a lover, heโll definitely break things off with her. After that, you go to him, get hush money. Then go to Alice and say I orchestrated the whole thing, including your approach to her.โ
Kyler was even more confused. Wouldnโt Alice come after him if she knew Aubree was behind it?
But none of that mattered to him. As long as he got the money, it was fine.
โAlright.โ Kyler agreed.
After the call ended, his bank account received a deposit of 3 million dollars. And that wasnโt even the final payment. Once he finished the job, Aubree promised another 6 million dollars.
He thought Aubree was truly rich and willful.
With Kylerโs help from the inside, Aubree arranged for people to take pictures of him and Alice. Every photo was crystal clear and jaw-dropping.
She was very satisfied. She mailed them straight to the Wilson familyโs estate.
โMr. Wilson, a letter for you.โ
โA letter?โ Ronald was puzzled. He thought, โWho still sends letters in this day and age?โ
He took the envelope from the housekeeper and opened it in his study. Inside were photo after photo. There were two people in the photo, and Ronald knew that woman all too well.
His face contorted with rage. With a loud bang, he flung the photos across the room.
โAlice!โ He never imagined Alice would do something like this.
He called the butler. โIf you see Alice come home, send her to my study immediately.โ
No wonder she often left the house even when she wasnโt busy. It turned out there was some seductive little man outside keeping her hooked!
Ronaldโs chest heaved violently, almost triggering a heart attack.
