Chapter 502

Bryan glanced at Carmen before continuing. โ€œI got some news. Right now, Bowen doesnโ€™t want to make a big deal out of this. Not many people know Nina was kidnapped, and Darius definitely wonโ€™t reveal who was taken.โ€

He continued, โ€œAubree and the others are busy searching for Ninaโ€™s whereabouts. By the time they react, the chaos will have already started. Even if she tries to clarify it later, so what? Dad, you havenโ€™t forgotten about the pawn we planted in Sรผdlichen Strand, have you?โ€

He added, โ€œItโ€™s time to act. Aubree definitely wonโ€™t be able to handle all this! This time, GrabCheap is bound to take a heavy hit!โ€

Ronald thought over Bryanโ€™s suggestion, weighed the pros and cons, and concluded it was the best move they had at the moment.

If luck was on their side, they might even knock GrabCheap off its pedestal. A kidnapped friend, trouble in the company, such a blow might just bring Aubree down. At that point, he, as a father, could step in to offer support. She might let go of her grudge.

โ€œTimothyโ€™s group is a ticking time bomb,โ€ Ronaldโ€™s eyes gleamed. โ€œMake sure Nina stays alive, but letting her have a little accident might make Aubree feel even more guilt and pain.โ€

Though it sounded like he was offering an opinion, it was clearly a command.

Bryan responded, โ€œJust let Timothyโ€™s people stir up a bit of trouble. Youโ€™re right, Dad. They canโ€™t stay around much longer.โ€

He turned to Alice. โ€œMom, if I remember correctly, Timothyโ€™s place is remote and deserted. You usually arrange for people to deliver their supplies, right? Itโ€™s been quite a while since the last delivery. They must be running low.โ€

Aliceโ€™s brow twitched. โ€œWhat are you planning?โ€

Bryan replied, โ€œWeโ€™ll lace their food with a slow-acting poison. Make them commit suicide out of guilt.โ€

Alice was severely tempted. This would also take care of a problem for her. After all, dead men tell no tales.

Ronald looked at Bryan with satisfaction. Bryan was calm under pressure, able to come up with such a solid plan. Bryan reminded him of himself in his younger days.

Bryan said, โ€œSpeaking of Sรผdlichen Strand, that mole we placed there seems quite capable. Even managed to connect with Birgitte.โ€

He raised an eyebrow. โ€œGiven Patrickโ€™s personality, Iโ€™m not surprised. Women, no matter how strong, are all the same in the end.โ€

He said this without the slightest regard for the fact that Carmen and Alice were present.

Alice didnโ€™t react. Her mind was elsewhere.

Carmenโ€™s brows lowered slightly as she let out a soft snort.

โ€œMajor King, weโ€™ve done an initial sweep as per your orders. Even though this is on the outskirts of the capital, you know how it is in Rithol City. Every square foot is valuable, even for building a public restroom. We need more time.โ€

Mark was on the phone, his expression neither particularly good nor bad. Hearing that Ninaโ€™s life wasnโ€™t in danger had calmed him somewhat.

He said, โ€œKeep searching. Run it concurrently to save time.โ€

The other end responded, โ€œYes, sir.โ€

Mark hung up. They had lost Ninaโ€™s trail, and couldnโ€™t just run around like headless chickens. So they stayed at the spot where her tracker had been discarded.

Mark said, โ€œThe areaโ€™s too large. Itโ€™ll take time to search. We probably wonโ€™t get results tonight. Iโ€™ll stay here. You all should go get some rest.โ€

โ€œI asked her for help. She agreed because of an old favor. Whether itโ€™s Nina or Aubree in danger, I couldnโ€™t walk away now,โ€ Bowen rejected the suggestion. Even though he was fairly confident Nina wouldnโ€™t be harmed, sheโ€™d gotten into trouble because of Aubree. If she didnโ€™t return safe and sound, Aubree would surely hold a grudge.

Aubree had no plans to leave either. They all knew that โ€œnot life-threateningโ€ didnโ€™t mean โ€œnot dangerous.โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ She was just about to say sheโ€™d stay too, when her phone interrupted.

Bowen glanced over. It was a call from Vincent. โ€œAnswer it. Maybe the people behind this are up to something new.โ€

Aubree picked up and said, โ€œHello? I was kidnapped? Have we tracked the source of that rumor?โ€

She frowned. โ€œReporters are swarming the Walton family? Got it. Keep an eye on the Wilson family."

Meeting Bowenโ€™s inquisitive gaze, Aubree smiled faintly. โ€œLooks like you were right. The ghosts hiding in the shadows are finally moving.โ€

She continued. โ€œThe only people who knew about the kidnapping were us, the Walton family, and the Wilson family. Vincent just called to say thereโ€™s a rumor going around online that I was kidnapped at the Walton family banquet.โ€

โ€œReporters are already blocking the Walton family estate. It wonโ€™t be long before Darius asks you what to do.โ€ Aubree looked at Bowen.

Before they left the Walton family, he had specifically asked Darius to keep the matter quiet. Even if Darius didnโ€™t respect Bowen, heโ€™d at least want to avoid trouble for himself, so heโ€™d help keep things under wraps.

That only left the Wilson family.

Bowen glanced at his phone again. Darius had just messaged, asking how to handle things.

โ€œBree, what do you think?โ€ Obviously, the target of all this was her.

Aubree replied, โ€œItโ€™s about what I suspected from the beginning. I kept wondering why the Wilson family would want to kidnap me. Now itโ€™s clear. They wanted me to disappear and stir up panic. If Bree Technology suffers any setbacks, wouldnโ€™t it just be meat on the Wilson familyโ€™s chopping block?โ€

Bowen asked, โ€œSoโ€ฆ should we clear up the rumors?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Aubree shook her head. โ€œIf the Wilson family dared to release false info, they mustโ€™ve prepared for me to clarify it. Iโ€™m going to help them instead. Let Mr. Walton acknowledge the kidnapping publicly.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Bowen didnโ€™t ask why. He just agreed.

Mark didnโ€™t quite get the games played in the business world. โ€œIsnโ€™t this something you can just explain? Why complicate it?โ€

Aubree had originally planned to stay and confirm Ninaโ€™s safety, but trouble found her before she could make a move. โ€œSorry, I have to leave and keep an eye on the Wilson family. If you get any updates, let me know right away.โ€

It was already very late. Mark arranged for someone to drive her back. On the way, Aubree called Birgitte.

Birgitte exclaimed, โ€œMs. Miller, you scared me to death! I thought something happened to you!โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Iโ€™m fine,โ€ Aubree reassured her.

When Birgitte saw the kidnapping rumor online, she almost ran straight to Rithol City. Hearing Aubreeโ€™s voice finally eased her nerves.

She asked, โ€œWhat on earth happened?โ€

Aubree gave her a rough rundown. โ€œI suspect it was the Wilson familyโ€ฆ"

Birgitteโ€™s tone became more serious. โ€œAre you sure?โ€

Aubree replied, โ€œHighly likely. After all those attacks on GrabCheap, I already suspected the Wilson family was behind it. At first, they couldnโ€™t even break through our systems. Then suddenly they could do so much damageโ€ฆ Iโ€™m convinced we have a mole in the company.

She added, โ€œThis time they went to all this trouble to kidnap me. Even if they failed, they still spread the news. That means they donโ€™t want to waste this opportunity. Follow the plan we discussed earlier.โ€

Aubree suddenly thought of someone. โ€œBirgitte, are you and Patrick dating?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Birgitte replied.

Birgitte picked up on her implication. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Ms. Miller. No matter who it is, I wonโ€™t go easy on them!โ€
