Chapter 439
Aubree couldnโt guarantee every single thing would be a hundred percent successful, but she had absolute confidence in everything she did. She was sure those three companies wouldnโt refuse to work with her.
โMs. Miller, Mr. Carr, weโve watched the mini dramas. Honestly, we have to admit thereโs something kind of addictive about it. It keeps people watching. But about this partnershipโฆโ
The executives across from them exchanged glances.
โWe still think we should hold off on this collaboration. Each episode is two or three minutes long. Weโve never seen anything produced like that before. The actors are all pretty much unknown, and the costumes, sets, and special effects are nothing to write home about. Mr. Carr, you probably know more about these than we do.
โWe donโt see a product like this bringing any game-changing profits to our platform. Honestly, itโs not just about money. Weโre worried about risking our platformโs reputation, you know?โ
โNo! Youโฆโ Kurtis shot up from his seat, furious. These people acted all friendly when they watched the video together. Now they were showing their true colors.
And it was already the second company to turn them down.
โMr. Carr!โ Aubree reached out and gently pressed down on Kurtisโs shoulder. โItโs alright. Everyone has their own considerations. Even if we canโt work together this time, thereโs no hard feelings. Weโre still on good terms.โ
Aubree smiled at the executives across the table. โLooks like my project didnโt win you over. I guess I need to work harder. It doesnโt matter if we canโt cooperate. Iโll treat you all to a meal when thereโs a chance in the future.โ
After exchanging a couple of polite words, Aubree simply led Kurtis out of the room without saying anything more.
Once they were back in the car, Kurtis still couldnโt wrap his head around how things had turned out this way.
โAre those people blind or what?โ he burst out. โWhy didnโt you say anything back there?โ
Kurtis thought, โAubree fought for it just like I did at the first company, even though it didnโt work out. However, Aubree didnโt even try this time. How could Aubree just let it go with the second one?โ
Aubree gave a small smile. โThereโs no need to get all worked up if they donโt want to work with us. Weโve still got a third company to visit, donโt we? Besides, missing our flight would be a real pain.โ
Her voice was steady, not a trace of annoyance or frustration on her face as if the rejection didnโt bother her in the slightest.
Kurtis stared at her in disbelief. โYou donโt care at all? If none of these deals work out, wonโt it mess up your plans, at least a little?โ
There was no way they could pull it off just by making those mini dramas themselves.
Selling the rights wasnโt just about a simple licensing fee. It was about getting the mini dramas out there. After the first wave of hype, all the major video platforms would start streaming them, making the mini-dramas look like the next big thing.
Wherever thereโs money to be made, people will jump in. Soon, thereโd be plenty of others making mini dramas, too, putting them on Zappy and that free platform of theirs. With all those ripple effects, the biggest winners would still be them, eventually.
However, if even one step was missing, itโd be hard to hit their targets as fast as they wanted.
Aubree shrugged and said, โIf they donโt want to work with us, itโs not like we can hold a gun to their head and force them, right?
โNo point wasting our time on something that leads nowhere. Letโs do something that matters. Letโs check on how things are going in Urggate City before we decide our next move.โ
โSheโs really this chill?โ Kurtis thought, watching her.
However, he started to feel a little more at ease as he looked at Aubree. She must have had this all planned out, Kurtis thought.
Aubree and Kurtis made a beeline for their next destination when their plane touched down in Urggate City. Sure enough, they got rejected yet again, though it was both unexpected and somehow exactly what theyโd anticipated.
As they reached the company entrance, Kurtis shot a glare at the secretary whoโd walked them out. He said, โAre these three companies in cahoots or what? Seriously, theyโre all giving us the same lame excuses!โ
โWe told them the mini drama wasnโt some fancy production long ago, didnโt we? They didnโt care before, but now everyone has suddenly got a problem with it. This isnโt how people do business, right?โ
Aubree pressed her lips into a thin line. โItโs not that they donโt want to work with us. Itโs that someone beat us to the punch.โ
โWhat?โ Kurtis blurted out, completely shocked. As far as he knew, they were the only ones doing mini dramas right now. He thought, โIf it werenโt for Aubree, even if someone had told me about this, thereโs no way Iโd have thrown money at something like this.โ
โIf Aubree hadnโt let me get a taste of success with those mini dramas, and I hadnโt taken a gamble with her, I never wouldโve believed in the mini drama thing. I thought it was burning cash for nothing when I first heard about it.
