Chapter 398
After Grace and Elizabeth left, Hugo invited Birgitte to go hang out at a farmhouse together.
Even though Birgitte acted like she didnโt care about what had just happened, there was still a knot in her heart. She did like Ethan, but she really couldnโt stand people who were involved in complicated relationships with others.
She replied, โNo, thanks. Iโll visit you on your dadโs birthday. Besides, Iโve already booked my flight back to Sรผdlichen Strand for tomorrow. I need to get things in order when I get back.โ
Hugo was totally clueless. He didnโt notice anything off about Birgitteโs mood at all. Cheerfully, he thought what happened earlier hadnโt affected Birgitte one bit, and that she was just too busy to hang out.
โAlright then. I was hoping to introduce you to my parents. Weโll catch up when I get back to Sรผdlichen Strand,โ Hugo said.
Birgitte forced a smile. โMeet his parents? On what grounds? What am I to him?โ she thought.
Aubree and Bowen had agreed that after she dropped Birgitte off, theyโd go have dinner with Enrique that evening.
On the way back, Ethan was driving, with Bowen and Hugo sitting in the back seat.
Bowen rubbed his wrist and asked, โYou really think Grace is gonna back off just because you told her to?โ
Hugo glanced over. โI spelled it out for her, didnโt I? I mean, I made it clear I donโt like her. She should get it, right?โ
Bowen replied, โWhether you like her or not is one thing. Whether she likes you is a whole different story.โ
Hugo, who was used to being blunt in the squad, was totally baffled. โIโve already turned her down. Sheโd still keep pursuing me? Seriously?โ he thought.
โIf youโre really planning to go after Miss Cherniavsky, you better start using your head,โ Bowen advised.
Bowen thought, โBirgitte is Breeโs friend. If she and Hugo really get together, that means Bree gets another solid connection.โ
โHonestly, Miss Cherniavsky got dragged into this mess because of you. She had her old wounds ripped open like that. Even if she acts like she doesnโt care, you should at least show where you stand,โ Bowen added.
Ethan let out a low whistle. He hadnโt even considered that. Now that Bowen mentioned it, he realized heโd been a bit thoughtless earlier.
His face darkened a little as he started to think things over.
Bowen left it at that. He couldnโt care less about other peopleโs love lives. If it werenโt for Aubree, he wouldnโt even bother with this kind of boring drama.
However, if this drama took place between Aubree and him, he felt that it would be a whole different story.
Bowen warned, โEveryone from the Lawson family is a handful. Grace wonโt give up so easily. Youโd better keep your eyes openโespecially since sheโs got Elizabeth backing her up.
โIโm telling you, theyโre not the type to let things go. Theyโll definitely try to make a comeback.โ
Hugo nodded.
Later that evening, Aubree drove to the address Bowen had given her. It had been a while since sheโd seen Enrique, and they had a great time catching up. Enrique introduced her to the Moore family.
โSo youโre the boss of Bree Technology? Youโre really impressive for your age,โ Ricky Moore said.
Laurel Moore said, โJust call me Laurel. I absolutely love your companyโs app, Zappy. Our military unit uses it for all kinds of promotions, and it works wonders.โ
โThatโs right, and that GrabCheap app of yours has really helped a lot of folks who are struggling. Youโre a good kid,โ Ricky chimed in.
Ricky and Laurel couldnโt stop praising Aubree. The more they talked, the more they liked her. A trace of regret appeared in their heart. If Aubree wasnโt already Bowenโs girlfriend, theyโd be dying to have Hugo date her.
After the break, Aubree was back at school.
Birgitte headed back to Sรผdlichen Strand to keep up with the followโup work for GrabCheap, and Hugo hurried back to Sรผdlichen Strand as soon as his vacation ended.
The real hot topic, though, was Alice.
Sheโd seen that man again.
