Chapter 238

Aubree couldnโ€™t just tell Bowen that something would go wrong with this land in the future. She hadnโ€™t conducted any investigation, and there was no way she could claim to know in advance. That would be way too suspicious.

She gripped Bowenโ€™s arm and asked, โ€œIs this project a must for Turner Group?โ€

Bowenโ€™s gaze met her earnest one, and he said, โ€œNo.โ€

According to their estimates, this project was highly profitable. However, even if the Turner Group lost it, there would be no impact. "Trust me. Drop the bid," Aubree said firmly.

Bowen was slightly hesitant. Bree does have a point, he thought. โ€œIf any unforeseen issues were to arise during development, it would be a real headache for Turner Group.โ€

Kelvin, by his side, was anxious. While he admitted Aubreeโ€™s money-making ideas were truly ingenious, she clearly lacked expertise in project investments. He was worried Bowen would agree to give up just to please Aubree.

โ€œMr. Turner, we canโ€™t just walk away. Many board members are eyeing this project,โ€ Kelvin said.

Aubree was silent, just watching Bowen as she waited for his final answer. If he still chooses to bid, I wonโ€™t stop him again. Itโ€™s really too much to ask him to give up the bid just because of a few words from me, without any evidence, she thought.

Bowen fell silent. โ€œBree, are youโ€ฆ are you saying you know this project will run into trouble later?โ€ he asked.

Aubree froze. She didnโ€™t expect Bowen to be this sharp. He caught the true meaning behind her words right away. โ€œYes, but I donโ€™t have any evidence to prove it. Do you trust me?โ€ she asked.

โ€œKelvin, drop the bid,โ€ Bowen said.

He trusts me! Aubree thought to herself.

Bowenโ€™s brown eyes met hers, unwavering. โ€œI trust you, Bree. I believe every word you say,โ€ he said.

Kelvin clutched his head in frustration. What the hell is this? No investigation, no evidence, and just one word from Miss Miller, and weโ€™re giving up? Boss is blinded by love! he cursed deep down.

Kelvin could only weep silently.

In reality, Bowen wasnโ€™t acting on mere emotion. This project would certainly benefit Turner Groupโ€™s development, but only if it could be completed smoothly, without any major setbacks along the way.

Doubling the investment would pose substantial risks for Turner Group. The project timeline wasnโ€™t short, and if anything went wrong, they might not recoup the capital at all, or the payback period could be significantly extended.

After weighing all angles, giving up seemed like a wise choice. โ€œLeave the board to me. Iโ€™ll take full responsibility,โ€ Bowen said.

Kelvin could only swallow his remaining words. Forget it. As long as Boss is happy, he thought resignedly.

With the bidding about to begin, Kelvin rushed to inform the organizers that Turner Group was withdrawing from the bid.

Back at her seat in the first-floor lobby, Elizabeth wore a look of absolute confidence. โ€œMr. Turner said earlier that it would come down to our abilities. Well, Iโ€™m afraid Iโ€™m just more capable this time,โ€ she said.

The sealed bids from all participating corporations had been delivered to the tender committee. Everyone was now waiting for the final result.

The Lawson Group or the Turner Group? they wondered.

Most people still believed the Turner Group had the better shot at winning. Some, eager to curry favor with Bowen, were already finishing to congratulate him.

โ€œLooks like this project will end up in the hands of the Turner Group after all. Mr. Turner is young, capable, and far-sighted. If my useless son were even half as impressive, Iโ€™d be grinning in my sleep,โ€ someone said.

โ€œMr. Turner, I wonder if I could have the honor of having a meal with you after you win the bid? I have a project on my end, but I'm not sure if youโ€™ll be interested," another person said.

โ€œWith Mr. Turner in the game, we can only tag along for a ride.โ€

Bowen smiled mysteriously and said, โ€œNo, Iโ€™m afraid the winner this time is likely Ms. Lawson. I've withdrawn from the bidding.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ That was everyoneโ€™s first reaction. Even Elizabeth froze in shock.

Meanwhile, the tender committee officially announced Lawson Group as the winning bidder.

โ€œWhy?โ€ Elizabeth couldnโ€™t understand. โ€œWhy did they just withdraw?โ€

A sense of humiliation surged in her heart. Did you look down on me? she thought to herself. Winning the bid didnโ€™t bring her any joy at all. Bowen, am I so insignificant to you?

Elizabeth glared at Bowen, demanding an explanation. Bowen found it strange. โ€œMs. Lawson, you should be happy,โ€ he said.

He checked his watch and said, โ€œI need to send my girl home. She has school tomorrow. Excuse me.โ€

Elizabeth stared at the backs of the two as they walked away, eyes blazing with fury.
