Chapter 153

Kelvin stood by the door, asking softly. As someone emerged carrying a stack of documents, he stopped them, took the tests, and gave them a scolding. Honestly, they were pretty subpar.

Kelvin stroked his chin. โ€œNormally, Mr. Turner wouldnโ€™t be quite so harsh with his words, but these daysโ€“itโ€™s all because Miss Mitter and Mr. Turner have a falling out,โ€ he wondered.

Kelvin patted the manager on the shoulder. โ€œEven if this project is tough, you still need to put in more effort. Mr. Turnerโ€™s been in a foul mood lately, so everyone better be on their toes.โ€

With that, Kelvin entered with this quarterโ€™s financial report. โ€œMr. Turner, hereโ€™s the financial statement from accounting. Please take a look.โ€

Bowen pressed a hand to his forehead and waved the report away.

Kelvin casually brought it up. โ€œMr. Turner, I have this friend who recently took a liking to a young lady. The thing is, he thought he was such a catch that sheโ€™d naturally fall for him without him even trying. Guess what happened?โ€

Kelvin continued, โ€œThe girl got snatched up by another guy!โ€

Bowen stared at Kelvin, shifting his full attention to him.

Seeing he had Bowenโ€™s attention, Kelvin cleared his throat and continued, โ€œI think if he likes her, he has got to make his move quickly, or at least drop some hints. Just waiting around will get him nowhere.โ€

โ€œKelvin, do you have too much free time on your hands lately?โ€ Bowen asked in a dangerous voice.

He pressed, โ€œOr is it because I havenโ€™t docked your bonus lately that youโ€™ve gotten cocky?โ€

Bowen wondered, โ€œDoes he really take me for a fool, thinking I canโ€™t tell heโ€™s making a point about me?โ€

Kelvin forced a laugh. โ€œLetโ€™s not go there with the bonus deduction, Mr. Turner. How about checking the financial statements first?โ€

Bowen scoffed decisively.

Bowen thought, "If you like her but donโ€™t take the initiative, some other guy might sweep her off her feet? Nonsense, how is that even comparable to me?

Who do I even like? How could I possibly like her? I just see her as a little girl."

As Bowen mulled over Kelvinโ€™s words, he grew increasingly unsettled.

He wondered, "Holiday is coming up, and in just about six months, Bree will be heading off to college. Thereโ€™d be plenty of guys chasing after her then. What if she meets some smooth-talking charmer? What if she gets taken advantage of?"

Bowen couldnโ€™t make sense of the documents in his hands. โ€œYouโ€™re dismissed,โ€ he ordered.

After dismissing Kelvin, Bowen called Ollie.

โ€œWell, I should go buy a lottery ticket todayโ€“the super busy guy actually called me,โ€ Ollie teased.

Bowen remained silent, half-listening to Ollie brag for a while.

โ€œAlright, spill it. Whyโ€™d you call?โ€ Ollie asked.

โ€œGot a question for you,โ€ Bowen said, narrowing his eyes, though what really occupied his mind was how Aubree hadnโ€™t shown the slightest intention of reaching out to him these past few days.

Bowen even asked Alvin about her last nightโ€“not a single word about him.

โ€œNow thatโ€™s something,โ€ Ollie chuckled. โ€œCome on, whatโ€™s the scoop?โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s the deal when a girl doesnโ€™t give a guy the slightest attention?โ€ Bowen said.

โ€œThey used to spend quite some time together,โ€ he added.

This sent Ollie into a fit of laughter. Heโ€™d been wondering why Bowen suddenly reached out to him. โ€˜So thatโ€™s why,โ€™ he wondered. โ€˜It seems he is about to fall in love!โ€™

Ollie laughed and said, โ€œCome on, isnโ€™t it obvious? The girl just isnโ€™t into the guy.โ€

The corners of Bowenโ€™s mouth instantly drooped, but still unwilling to give up, he rationalized, โ€œWhat if sheโ€™s just been too busy lately?โ€

Ollie could barely contain his laughter. This was absolutely hilarious. "She mustโ€™ve finally dumped him," he thought, thoroughly amused.

โ€œCome on, Bowen, who could be busier than you? Back when you were so into Bree, you always made time for her, no matter how packed your schedule was. Letโ€™s be real, if she really cared, she would find the time. Bottom line is, sheโ€™s just not making you a priority,โ€ said Ollie.

Bowen fell silent for a moment, then weakly insisted, โ€œI wasnโ€™t talking about my issue.โ€

โ€œRight, of course itโ€™s not you,โ€ Ollie drawled, kicking back in his chair and picking at his ear. โ€œAnything else? Or can I hang up now?โ€

Bowen said, โ€œLetโ€™s grab drinks tonight.โ€

โ€œSure thing, round up Mark and the gang,โ€ Ollie smiled.
