Chapter 201
At the hospital, Jim walked in and gave me a casual glance. “Got caught, huh?”
He was clearly gloating. I felt awful and didn’t feel like talking to anyone.
Jonathan shot him a cold look the moment he heard that.
Jim met his gaze with a smug smile. Dropping the act, he said, “Since you’ve already figured it out, there’s no point hiding it anymore.”
“So, you knew all along?”
Jonathan’s eyes sharpened. He let out a low chuckle filled with sarcasm. “You knew she lost her memory from the start?”
Jim nodded. “I saw her medical report back then and noticed something was off. I was just curious how long it would take you to catch on.”
Jonathan took a deep breath, clearly trying to suppress his anger.
“If you knew from the beginning, why didn’t you tell me?” he demanded.
Jim shrugged without a care. “Didn’t I just tell you? I wanted to see when you’d notice something was wrong.”
Jonathan’s fists clenched. “So, you two were lying to me together from the start?”
Jim glanced at me. “Not exactly. Elise asked me not to tell you.”
Jonathan looked at me again. The veins in his neck stood out, tension heavy in his expression. But in the end, he just closed his eyes and said, “Go get checked.”
I stood up and told him, “I already had a checkup. I didn’t lose my memory. He made that up to fool you.”
Still clinging to a final excuse, I felt Jonathan suddenly grab my wrist. Without sparing Jim a glance, he ordered, “Go wait outside.”
“Seriously? First you called me in, now you’re kicking me out? What are you two up to?” Jim said.
Jonathan stared straight into my eyes. “I told you to leave. Didn’t you hear me?”
Jim had no choice but to turn and walk out.
Once the door closed, it was just the two of us left in the room.
Jonathan grabbed my chin, pulling me into his arms. “Why didn’t you tell me? When did it start? How long have you been like this?”
He fired off question after question, but I didn’t want to answer. I pressed my lips together and stayed silent.
He suddenly grabbed the back of my neck, forcing me to meet his eyes. “Elise, answer me.”
“I already told you that I didn’t lose my memory!” I said.
“If that’s true, then why can’t you remember so many things?” he asked.
“Because I don’t want to remember! Is that not allowed?” I replied.
“So, is it that you won’t… Or that you can’t? Elise, stop lying to me.”
“I’m not lying!” I lied to him without batting an eye.
Jonathan let out a mocking laugh. “If you’re not lying, then you remember everything. Is that it?”
“Yes. I remember it all.”
My voice was cold. “And because I remember everything, that’s exactly why I have no hesitation about divorcing you.”
“Fine,” he said. “Then tell me, how did we even get together in the first place?”
I froze for a second, then casually made something up. “We slept together by accident, and somehow ended up together after that.”
His expression stiffened. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t deny it either.
My heart skipped a beat. Did I actually guess it right? Was it really because of a one–night stand?
He said nothing, but his face darkened.
After a moment, he finally asked in a hoarse voice, “So in your mind, we’re only together because of some accident?”
I refused to meet his eyes. “This is about whether I lost my memory. Don’t try to change the subject!”
Jonathan took a deep breath. “Fine. Then tell me, when was our first time?”
