Chapter 184
Even though I was Jonathan’s secretary, everyone knew that I was only at Millenia Corporation to latch onto him. Every time he turned my advances down, Alicia and her clique would mock me. The more I was ridiculed, the more I refused to back down. I wanted Jonathan to prove that I was special to him.
But he was swamped with work at the time. Perhaps he had had enough of me acting the way I did because his treatment of me only got worse. It was a vicious cycle.
I closed my eyes and tamped down the strange feeling rising in me. Although I had no recollection of the past, I could still vaguely feel the distress I felt at the time.
I clutched my chest. No, I refused to remember. I liked the person that I was now. I had forgotten everything and was given a fresh start. How could I go back to how I used to be?
That was not happening!
I stormed in with such rage that the receptionist approached me to try to stop me. When he noticed my displeasure, he said nothing and sent me directly to Jonathan’s office.
He wasn’t in a meeting, so the path was clear. I pushed the door open and walked in, only to see Alicia inside.
“Who’s there? Don’t you know how to knock?”
She instinctively stood up when she heard me come in, clearly ready to lash out. But when she saw me, her face darkened even more. “What are you doing here, Elise?”
I didn’t even glance her way. I shoved past her and walked up to Jonathan. “Jonathan!”
He sat calmly at his desk, fingers tapping lightly against the surface. His knuckles were sharp and defined. The mahogany tabletop was elegant and stately, but none of that could contain my fury.
I slammed both hands on the desk and stared straight at him. “Did you buy out the lot next to New Voyage?”
“I did,” Jonathan readily admitted. “You must’ve seen the sign that says Millenia Corporation.”
“Why?”
I gritted my teeth as I glared at him. “You did this on purpose, didn’t you? What did I ever do to you? Why are you treating me like this?”
Jonathan looked at me indifferently. “I don’t recall doing anything to you. All I did was buy a plot of land, start a new project, and move a team over.”
“You did it on purpose!”
I took a deep breath, my eyes blazing with anger. “With things the way they are now, how am I supposed to continue running my company there?”
Jonathan scoffed and slowly stood up. “You didn’t want to be my secretary. Yet, you went off to start a company with Frederick. If you’re so sure of yourself, how could I affect you?”
I gnashed my teeth together and stared at him coldly. “Must you do this, Jonathan? Can’t we have an amicable separation? Do you want me to hate you?”
“Hate me?” Jonathan walked up to me, lifting a strand of hair by my cheek and twirling it around his finger.
I winced in pain as he grabbed the back of my head to make me look up at him. “Show me just how much you can hate me.”
Alicia, who had been completely overlooked, couldn’t help but step forward. “Stop causing a scene, Elise! Jonathan has always kept business and private matters separate. Why would he ever do something like that to get back at you?”
I turned to look at her, my gaze icy. “Was I speaking to you? Get out!”
Her face fell as if she’d been wronged. “Jonathan!”
But Jonathan didn’t say a word. He just kept staring at me.
I shook off his grip, walked up to Alicia, and pointed at the door. “I’m talking to Jonathan. What does this have to do with you? Get out!”
My direct outburst left Alicia stunned. “Do you even realize what you’re saying, Elise? How dare you talk to me like that?”
