Chapter 180
I knew exactly what kind of people my family was. If they found out I had married a man like Jonathan, they would have shown up at my door with great fanfare to wring me dry. I had suspicions that Jonathan might’ve done something to threaten them. But then again, I doubted that he would go that far for me.
Just as my thoughts were drifting, it suddenly began to rain outside. It started with a drop or two, only for the sound to grow louder as the rain picked up. I got up and closed all the windows. When I reached the balcony, the street below was completely empty. There was no one in sight. I felt relieved. It seemed Jonathan had left like he did before.
I knew he didn’t want a direct confrontation with me for the time being. But when I stepped into the hallway to shut the door, I caught sight of a dark figure standing there.
“Who’s there?”
Startled, I subconsciously took a step back. The shadow slowly lifted his head, fixing me with a cold stare. I found myself staring into Jonathan’s weighty gaze and froze on instinct. Those eyes were so terribly dark that they blended into the night. He stood there with rain dripping from his hair. Every drop fell to the floor at his feet like drops of night.
He stared at me so intently that I recoiled. I turned around to shut the door, only for Jonathan to stride forward. He stopped it from closing with one hand.
“Let go!”
I nearly slammed the door on his hand, but he disregarded that completely. He simply stared down at me with that intense gaze. It was a gaze that was too much for me to bear. I pursed my lips and tried pushing the door closed with force. My resistance was plainly apparent. But Jonathan didn’t move an inch. He remained rooted in place even after several attempts to push him out. Annoyed, I slammed the door shut and turned to leave.
He followed behind me by stepping inside and shutting the door behind him. His low voice rumbled. “What’s got you so mad?”
Before I could get far, he reached out from behind and wrapped his arms around my shoulders, drawing me into his embrace.

“You were the one trying to shut me out. So, what are you so angry about?”
I took a deep breath and pried his hands away. Then, I turned to face him. “Because I don’t want to see you.”
His brows furrowed slightly, but he didn’t say anything. Instead, he surveyed the space behind me. “You’d rather stay in a place like this than come back with me?”
“What’s wrong with a place like this?” I couldn’t stand his tone. So, I shoved him. “I put a lot of effort into this!”
Jonathan scoffed. Even though he was soaked to the bone, he didn’t look the least bit disheveled. He somehow looked even more dashing.
I clenched my fists and thought about how the universe seemed to favor him for the umpteenth time. Aside from his awful temper, was there anything about him that wasn’t perfect?
Would a man of his caliber act this desperate?
“What do you want from me?” I regained my calm and stared placidly at him.
“I’m soaked.” He suddenly stepped forward. His dark eyes seemed to mirror the rain.
“So?” I was indifferent. “You’re a grown man, not a child. You chose to stand in the rain of your own volition.”
Jonathan paused, then said nothing. He leaned close to my ear, his warm breath brushing against my skin.
I instinctively stepped away, but he pulled me back, his hand pressing against the back of my neck.
“It’s been a week since I last saw you.” His voice, low and husky, brushed against my ear. “That’s never happened before.”
