Chapter 156

I could feel Jonathan’s intentions shifting, and I shouted instantly, “Stop! What are you doing?” Jonathan looked at me, his expression dark and unreadable. “Elise, something’s wrong with you.” He brushed my hair aside, exposing my entire face. His voice was hoarse, rough. “What happened to you? What are you hiding from me?”

When I didn’t respond, he tilted my chin up, forcing me to face him. Then he bit the corner of my mouth. He always did that, biting my lips and cheeks. It was a strange habit, and I honestly couldn’t stand it. “Don’t touch me!”

Jonathan rubbed my cheek hard. “You weren’t like this before.” His gaze darkened. “No matter how mad you got, you never changed this much.”

I took a deep breath and looked away. On the outside, I acted angry and irritated, but inside, I was starting to panic. What if he figured it out? What if he realized I had lost my memory? He didn’t even want a divorce to begin with. If he found out I didn’t remember anything, he’d use it to prove I wasn’t thinking straight, that I didn’t really want to leave him.

Seeing me avoid his eyes only made him more certain. He gripped my chin, forcing my gaze back to his. “Elise, what the hell is going on with you?” I didn’t answer. He suddenly leaned in closer, his voice low and edged with threat. “Don’t make me force it out of you.”

I snapped to attention, watching him warily. “What do you mean by that?” Jonathan didn’t respond. He flipped me onto my back and pinned me beneath him. With one hand, he pulled up my shirt. The cold air hit my exposed stomach, and I instinctively arched my back, but he pushed me flat against the bed.

I tried to pull my knees up, but he pinned them down with his other hand, trapping me in place. “What are you doing? You said you wouldn’t touch me!” I shouted. Jonathan suddenly covered my mouth, his eyes dark and unreadable. “Yeah, well—I changed my mind.” As he spoke, he began tugging my shirt down, pressing kiss after kiss along my neck slowly.

His warmth burned against my skin, the pressure light but firm. I shut my eyes and pushed at him with all my strength. But the difference in our strength was too much. He easily overpowered me, pinning both my wrists above my head. I was forced to arch my neck, my head tilted back. It felt like I was some helpless prey being claimed. His kisses trailed lower, reaching places no one had ever touched before.

My whole body locked up. I broke down, screaming, “Let go of me! Get off me! Get the hell away from me!” Jonathan finally stopped, maybe shocked by how violently I reacted. His eyes were glassy, unfocused, his breath uneven as he stared down at me. “You used to love it when I touched you here,” he said, brushing his hand against my waist.

I squeezed my eyes shut, my body trembling. “You’re lying!” I shouted, completely losing control, fear and fury burning through every thought. “You’re lying! Let go of me!” There was no way I’d ever like people touching my waist. It was the most sensitive part of my body; one touch there and I’d flinch uncontrollably. “I hate it! I never liked that!”

Jonathan’s eyes grew darker, more intense. He leaned over me again, bracing himself with his arms above my head. “Why have you changed so much?” He cupped my face in his hands, his gaze still clouded with desire. The way he looked at me, it was like I was the prey, and he was the predator. “Elise, what are you hiding from me?”
