Chapter 149
They remained suspicious. All I could say was, "If anything in my personal life affects the project, I'll take full responsibility. I'll even write it into the contract. I'll use compensation to demonstrate my sincerity." Only then did they relax slightly, nodding.
"Alright then. We'll be waiting to see your sincerity, Ms. Sawyer."
Hearing them call me "Ms. Sawyer," I realized the title had its advantages. At the very least, it felt good. When I woke up after slitting my wrists, the world felt strange. They all told me I was Jonathan's wife.
Initially, I was happy, but I soon noticed something odd—everyone called me "Ms. Sawyer." No one called me "Mrs. Ford." They treated Alicia as if she were Jonathan's true wife. At first, this angered and sickened me. But surprisingly, I've begun to feel like "Ms. Sawyer" is my name. It turned out the difference was immense, love or no love.
The negotiations concluded. Frederick and I walked them to their rooms. I planned to stay at the hotel. As I turned to leave, Frederick asked, "Want to grab something to eat?"
I paused. "It's pretty late. You mean a midnight snack?"
"Yeah. Aren't you hungry?"
"Kind of… But maybe I'll just stay hungry. Think of it as dieting."
Frederick looked helpless. "We're supposed to be siblings now. Are you afraid of us going out together, just the two of us?"
I sighed. "It's not that I'm scared. I just honestly don't feel like going out."
"Alright then," he said. "I'll head back to my room. If you need anything, just let me know."
I nodded. "Got it."
With that, I returned to my room to rest. Just as I hung up my jacket, my stomach growled. I was starving, but I didn't want a late-night snack with Frederick.
Chapter 149 2/2
It was late—just the two of us, a man and a woman alone. It felt inappropriate. It wasn't about loyalty to Jonathan; I just didn't want to involve Frederick in anything messy. He'd announced our sibling relationship, already causing gossip. After all, we were both adults; no one would believe a purely platonic sibling bond. Just as no one believed Jonathan and Alicia's relationship was innocent.
Frederick had been kind, and I didn't want anyone to misunderstand his intentions. As for me, I had no deeper feelings for him, and I definitely wasn't going to involve him while still legally married.
It was late. I tossed and turned, my hunger gnawing at me, until I finally decided to find something to eat. I quickly threw on a coat and headed downstairs, but saw a familiar car outside.
I froze, surprised. I hadn't expected Jonathan to be there. Immediately, I turned around, unwilling to encounter him. Clearly, seeing him was worse than being hungry.
The car door opened. A long leg, clad in tailored suit pants, emerged, followed by the sharp click of leather shoes approaching. I quickened my pace, but he pulled me into his arms, cutting off my escape.
"Where do you think you're going?" Jonathan's voice was cold.
