Chapter 136

Everyone looked genuinely surprised. They'd all assumed Alicia was going to get what she wanted.

“So, it wasn’t the pink diamond after all? Alicia’s been talking about it for months. She’s been hinting so hard that she wanted a pure pink diamond ring. I thought Mr. Ford would give it to her…”

“Yeah, same…”

Another person chimed in, “Mr. Ford is so attentive to Alicia. How could he not know what she really wanted? She practically spelled it out. Didn’t he have anyone keeping tabs on her life?”

They continued, as if completely forgetting I was Jonathan’s wife. To them, it was natural that he should be paying attention to Alicia’s desires; not doing so was the shocking part.

I shook my head.

Just when everyone assumed the gift-giving segment was over, a staff member quietly interrupted. “Excuse me, there’s still one more gift…”

Instinctively, I looked over and saw the staff member take out the pink diamond ring I had handed him earlier and place it in the center of the display table. The camera immediately zoomed in, and the image of the pink diamond filled the giant screen.

“This is…” The staff member paused, saw the name on the tag, and did a double-take. He made sure he read it right before continuing, “This gift was given by Ms. Elise.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, the entire room fell silent. I could literally hear everyone breathing.

Jonathan’s expression darkened instantly. His eyes locked onto the tray holding the diamond, cold as ice. The veins on the back of his hand started to pop, and I could see the storm of rage and frost swirling behind his gaze.

“Why is he reacting so strongly?” I murmured, tugging at the corner of my lips.

Frederick, seated next to me, gave a dry laugh. “He just used both your names to give a gift. That was his way of extending an olive branch. And now you’ve gone and slapped him in the face, right in public.”

I stared at him, speechless. “Are you seriously taking his side?”

He didn’t respond, just let out a cold snort.

I could tell he was annoyed. Everyone’s eyes were on me, filled with mixed emotions.

Jonathan turned his icy gaze in my direction, and I instinctively looked away. I cleared my throat, sat up straighter, and decided to meet it all with silence.

Even Alicia looked thrown off. She stared at me in disbelief, then glanced at Jonathan. It was obvious she wasn’t going to let this go easily.

She turned to me, feigning innocence and confusion. “Ms. Sawyer, since Jonathan included your name on the gift, why did you go through the trouble of giving something else?”

Then, as if it had just occurred to her, she added in faux surprise, “Didn’t you know he was handing over that international project to my family? Didn’t you two talk about something so big first?” With that one line, she again drove a wedge between me and Jonathan, subtly hinting that we weren’t close enough to discuss such things.

I looked at her calmly and smiled faintly. “Well, I heard from people in our circle that you’ve been dreaming of getting a pink diamond from Jonathan for the past six months. Since he didn’t get it for you, I figured I would. What’s the problem?”

Her face flushed, then paled. For a long moment, she was speechless.

Then someone gasped. “That pink diamond is True Love!”

“I remember that piece. It’s a top-tier luxury custom diamond, one of a kind in the world, worth over a hundred million! Why would Elise just give that away?”

“Wait… Hold on… Isn’t that a wedding ring?”

That comment was like a bomb going off in the room. Even I froze for a second.

No way… Did I just give away my wedding ring?

I looked up and met Jonathan’s cold eyes, now burning with fury.
