Chapter 53

Noelle remained rooted to the spot, calmly looking at Lucas. “That’s right,” she said.

“Very well then!” Lucas immediately ripped the IV drip from Xenia’s arm and scooped her up. “Let’s go. We won’t get treated here.”

Xenia quietly wrapped her arms around Lucas’s neck, secretly feeling smug. Lucas walked to the door and looked at the pouring rain. Considering his small umbrella, he looked at the large one in Noelle’s hand and said righteously, “Give me your umbrella. This small one is enough for you.”

“Why would I?” Noelle questioned, finding the situation ridiculous.

“Because you’re why Xenia is sick, so it’s only right that you give us your umbrella.”

Cedric walked over, his expression stoic, and stomped on the small umbrella Lucas had kicked over. His gaze was cold. “You lot could demand things from her because she treated you all like her brothers. Now that she no longer sees you as family, do you think you still have the right to demand anything?”

Lucas felt like he was about to explode. “Noelle, are you sure you want to act like this and make everyone’s life difficult? First, you get involved with this man, and now you’re turning against your family?”

Noelle remained quiet. She took the large umbrella and approached Lucas, her eyes dark as she opened it and shielded herself from the rain.

Lucas’s expression remained neutral. “It’s not too late for you to return to your senses. That school doctor has bad intentions, and he’s just trying to take advantage of you!”

A second later, Noelle slapped him. The slap left Lucas utterly stunned. He would have thought he was dreaming if it weren’t for the stinging pain on his cheek. He hadn’t even thought to dodge, as he was holding Xenia. He couldn’t believe Noelle had dared to hit him.

Seeing this, Xenia quickly said, “Noelle, how can you slap Lucas? Even if you aren’t willing to swap umbrellas, you shouldn’t hit him—”

Before she could finish, she shrieked as Noelle slapped her, too. And just like that, the world fell silent.

Noelle’s eyes were red, but her voice was cold and indifferent. “So what if I hit you? You can say whatever you want about me, but you don’t get to insult him!”

She turned and stomped over to Cedric. “Let’s go!”

Chapter 53 2/2

Cedric hadn’t expected Noelle to stand up for him like that. He took the umbrella from her hand, and they stepped into the pouring rain together.

It took Lucas a while to snap out of it. Then, he quickly rushed after them, the rain pelting down on him and Xenia.

Xenia, already feeling unwell from her cold, felt even more miserable in the rain. She was annoyed and frustrated, wondering what Lucas was doing. However, she didn’t dare throw a tantrum, so she faked a cough. “Lucas, I feel dizzy and unwell.”

Only then did Lucas remember he was carrying someone. Reluctantly, he said, “Xenia, I’ll take you back first.”

By then, Noelle and Cedric had disappeared into the distance.

When Noelle got into the car, she noticed Cedric’s shoulder was wet from the rain. She figured it must have happened when he held the umbrella for her, tilting it toward her.

Cedric started the car’s engine. “Well, weren’t you quite brave just now?”

Noelle appeared embarrassed. “I didn’t want to hear them continue slandering you!”

“Are you really that mad?”

Noelle paused. “After all, you’re my first friend. I don’t wish to see other people talk bad about you.” She didn’t care about Lucas’s opinion; he meant nothing to her. However, she wouldn’t allow him to slander Cedric.

Cedric remained focused on the road, the corners of his lips lifting slightly. When they arrived at their apartment, the rain was still pouring.
