Chapter 50
“For a moment, I thought I married a rich woman,” Yarrick said with a laugh. “I've verified that you’re not the same person when I met Ms Jandon earlier today,” said Yarrick.
Upon hearing this, Hailey couldn’t stifle her laughter. “What? It was the one who met up with you this morning? That’s… my way loaded. I’d be ecstatic! It’ll make my life so much easier!” he exclaimed before clearing his throat.
He recomposed himself and said, “I say, honey. Even if you’re not loaded, I’ll still treat you like a queen. Despite being somewhat poor, I’m a man with a strong sense of morals; we’re married. I’ll do my best to provide for you.”
Yarrick scratched the back of his head sheepishly. Hailey nodded with a small smile. This husband of hers was an honorable and upstanding man.
“I suppose I’ll be depending on you for the rest of my life then, darling,” she said.
“I’ll definitely work hard so that we can afford a comfortable life!” he declared.
“Don’t you regret marrying an old and sickly woman like me?” she asked.
“There’s no such thing. I don’t regret it at all,” he replied. “Besides, my wife is ten times more beautiful than any A-list celebrity.”
Soon, they finished their dinner. Hailey had a good appetite and ate a decent portion of the meal.
“You can go shop if you’d like, darling. I’ll do the dishes,” Hailey offered.
“I can’t let you do that, honey. Go and get some rest. Let me do the dishes instead,” Yarrick insisted. He added, “Don’t worry, I’m the one in charge of cooking and cleaning up back at home. I’ll be able to handle it with ease.”
Yarrick was a well-mannered and considerate son. He always insisted on doing the housework back home. Moreover, Hailey hadn’t fully recovered yet.
“Okay then, darling. I’ll go wash up,” Hailey said, watching as he swiftly cleaned up the table. She looked very happy.
“I married a great man,” she thought to herself. He refused to let her do any cleaning. Even at his age, he did quite a bit of housework at home. He seemed to be a very family-oriented guy; hardworking, diligent, and devoted to his family. Hailey felt very pleased. She hummed a tune as she made her way to the bath.
Meanwhile, Yarrick cleaned up the table and washed all the dishes in no time. He even wiped down the table. He thought of himself as a man with plenty of energy, but Hailey’s body seemed a bit weak; she probably wouldn’t be able to keep up. He quickly dismissed the thought. He would just have to wait until later.
The bathroom door unlocked with a click. Hailey exited the bathroom, her cheeks tinted red.
“I prepared a set of pajamas for you, darling. You should take a shower too,” she said.
“Barely anything, how’s your body?” Yarrick responded. Hailey’s words made him feel slightly excited.
