Chapter 354

โ€œThinking ofโ€ฆโ€ She shuddered, her eyes fixed on him. Hadwin Stephenson was now the Stephenson family patriarch. He undoubtedly had connections. If he helped investigate Graceโ€™s case, she'd have better leads. Her eyes brightened. She looked at him as if he were a freshly baked bun.

โ€œWellโ€ฆ I know I wronged you, and I admit to everything. I promise to do whatever you want, butโ€ฆ can you do me a small favor?โ€ Lina Sweeney asked expectantly.

โ€œA favor?โ€ Hadwin Stephenson was surprised. โ€œWhat โ€˜small favorโ€™?โ€ Her ingratiating look suggested it wasn't so small.

โ€œMy friend Graceโ€”the one who came with Jason the other dayโ€”was wrongly convicted and spent three years in prison. She's innocent, but we lacked evidence. We have some new clues. Can you investigate them?โ€

Hadwin Stephenson hadn't expected this.

โ€œSheโ€™s close to Jason. Why ask you instead of him?โ€

Lina Sweeney paused. โ€œGrace doesn't know I'm asking you. Andโ€ฆ I don't think she'd ask Jason. She was accused of drunk driving and killing Jason's fiancรฉe, Jennifer Atkinson.โ€

Hadwin Stephenson chuckled.

โ€œWhatโ€™s funny?โ€ Lina Sweeney frowned.

โ€œTheir relationship isโ€ฆinteresting,โ€ he said, smiling. โ€œBut if the judge ruled your friend killed someone while drunk driving, why do you think sheโ€™s innocent?โ€

โ€œGrace wouldnโ€™t lie. She said she wasnโ€™t drinking that day, and Jennifer Atkinsonโ€™s car swerved into hers. Thatโ€™s how it happened,โ€ Lina Sweeney said confidently.

The smile faded from Hadwin Stephensonโ€™s face, his eyes darkening. โ€œYou trust her that much?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s my best friend. If I donโ€™t trust her, who should I trust?โ€ Lina Sweeney replied.

โ€œHow about me? Do you trust me?โ€ Hadwin Stephenson asked abruptly.

Lina Sweeney was stunned. Was he foregoing revenge? Could she truly trust him? If not, she'd be utterly destroyed. She quickly answered, โ€œYes, of course, I trust you!โ€

He studied her intently. After a long moment, he lowered his lashes, hiding a flash of disappointment. โ€œAll right. Give me the clues. Iโ€™ll have someone investigate.โ€

โ€œReally? Thank you so much!โ€ Lina Sweeney exclaimed, overjoyed. She reached across the table, excitedly taking his hands. โ€œI knew you were a good guy! You canโ€™t go back on your word!โ€
