Chapter 991
Inside the arcade, Garland strode up to the counter to exchange tokens. The cashierโs eyes flickered to the stack of cash and the deck of credit cards. Then she couldnโt help but steal a glance at the casually dressed man.
โHere are your tokens, sir.โ
Garland grabbed the four large buckets of game tokens, handing two over to Debra. With deliberate emphasis, he raised his voice. โItโs my treat today. Have fun!โ
โThank you, Mr. Eaton,โ Debra replied, stressing her tone.
As they wandered over to one of the fishing machines, Garland leaned in and whispered, โAre you sure this will work?โ
โYeah,โ Debra whispered back. โDo you see anyone else in this arcade who would blow five thousand dollars on tokens without blinking? Theyโd be fools if they didnโt take the bait.โ
โBut why does it have to be me footing the bill?โ
โBecause I didnโt bring any money.โ
โWhat?โ
โBesides, what kind of men would make the ladies pay at places like this? These people are drawn to rich male customers. Donโt be so stingy. This is all for investigation?โ
Now Garland had no more excuses. After all, his family was a top clan owning assets worth over 500 billion dollars. And he couldnโt just tell her that he was not Fermin, just a twenty-something who had been freeloading off his familyโs wealth. The most money heโd ever earned was the 50 million dollars paid by Debra, and he had been forced to turn it over the moment he returned home. The cash in his wallet was all from Liza.
He made a mental note to have Juan reimburse him later. After all, Debra wasnโt his ex-wife. She was, at best, his boss. No employees covered their bossesโ expenses.
Soon, the two of them were burning through tokens, drawing a growing crowd of onlookers. Among them was a man dressed in casual clothes.
When Garlandโs latest attempt to reel in the big catch failed, the man sighed, โMan, you missed it again.โ
Garland glanced up and sulked, โIf youโre so good, why donโt you give it a shot?โ
The man chuckled, โNah, these games are boring. I know something way more fun. Interested in trying it out with your girlfriend?โ
Garlandโs face immediately twisted in annoyance. โWhat kind of eyes do you have? Where in the world did you get the idea that sheโsโฆโ
โSure,โ Debra cut in smoothly. โIโm getting bored of this game anyway. What else do you have?โ
Garland tried to protest, but she didnโt give him the chance. โIsnโt that right, honey?โ
Her tone was sweet, but her look was sharp. It was the same look Juan used to give him whenever he screwed up a task.
Garland shivered. โIf you say so, it must be good.โ
โPerfect,โ Debra said, standing up.
Over the past hour, sheโd noticed a pattern in the arcadeโs layout. The employees werenโt dressed in uniforms. Rather, they blended into the crowd, disguised as patrons. Whenever they found any wealthy-looking customers, theyโd guide them to the back rooms, where better games awaited.
