Chapter 977
The coldness in Debraโs eyes deepened. Cathryn laughed mockingly, โDebra, this is all youโve got? All you ever do is talk big with nothing to back it up.โ
โIf I do that,โ Debra said, โyouโd let Liza go, right?โ
โOf course. If you die, Iโll let her walk free,โ Cathryn said, glancing at Liza. โWeโre friends. I donโt want to hurt her. I just want you dead.โ
Lizaโs heart sank. She didnโt believe for a second that Debra would do that for her.
Debra turned to Frederic and extended her hand. โGive me the knife.โ
Frederic didnโt move, and she frowned. โI said, give it to me.โ
When Frederic still didnโt respond, she added, โIโm doing this to save your lady. If something happens to Liza, how will you explain it to Fermin?โ
But Frederic still refused to comply. Debra leaned in closer and lowered her voice. โTrust me. Just give me the knife.โ
Fredericโs gaze flicked to the gun in Debraโs right hand. Something clicked in his mind, and he slowly handed her the knife.
Debra turned back to Cathryn. โSo, if I stab myself in the heart and die right here, youโll let her go?โ
โAbsolutely,โ Cathryn said.
โFine,โ Debra said simply. She held the knife against her chest, aiming for her heart.
Lizaโs panicked voice rang out. โDebra, you donโt have to do this. Weโre not even that close, and I hate owing anyone anything.โ
Debra tilted her head in confusion. โMiss Eaton, I thought you disliked me. If I die, shouldnโt you be happy?โ
โI do hate you, but itโs not like Iโd be thrilled about your death,โ Liza said.
Debra laughed, โDonโt worry. Consider this a gift. You can pay me back in the afterlife.โ
โDonโt be ridiculous!โ Liza shouted.
Debra decided not to tease her further. She raised the knife high, feigning another dramatic move toward her chest. But before she could make contact, a voice suddenly echoed from behind Cathryn. โPut the knife down.โ
Chapter 977
It was Marion, his tone steady and unyielding as ever. Cathryn froze, her body stiffening as she felt the cold barrel of a gun press against her back. The knife slipped from her trembling fingers and clattered to the ground.
โMarion,โ she stammered, but Marion didnโt respond.
Liza freed herself and delivered a sharp slap toโbut stopped herself at the last second. She intended to strike her face. Lowering her arm, she fought back her tears and said coldly, โThis is the last time Iโll ever care about you, Cathryn. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other.โ
Cathryn collapsed to the ground, defeated and alone.
Marion approached Debra, his expression stern. โIf I hadnโt shown up, were you really going to stab yourself?โ
โOf course not,โ Debra replied breezily. โI spotted you coming from a mile away.โ
Lowering her voice with a playful smirk, she added, โI was just messing with Liza. Iโd never hurt myself.โ
