Chapter 952

Bert's expression turned grave. A servant approached him. โ€œSir, I heard that Miss Bernard is getting engaged to Drake. Invitations have been sent out, but Miss Eaton doesnโ€™t know yet.โ€

โ€œKeep it that way,โ€ Bert ordered. โ€œLiza is impulsive and might do reckless things if she finds out. Sheโ€™s spoiled, but she values her friendship with Cathryn. It would break her heart to know Cathryn is with Drake now.โ€

โ€œUnderstood. Iโ€™ll make sure the news is contained,โ€ said the servant.

Juan silently watched the scene. Garland peeked through the door crack.

โ€œWhatโ€™s got you so captivated?โ€

โ€œNothing.โ€

Juan sank back into the couch, his expression unreadable.

โ€œYou know, Liza has a way with people,โ€ Garland said, his tone smug. โ€œWhen she gets involved, your grandmother has to pack her things andโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what Iโ€™m worried about.โ€

โ€œThen what are you worried about?โ€

โ€œDid you get the invitation?โ€

โ€œInvitation? What invitation?โ€

โ€œTo the engagement party of Cathryn and Drake.โ€

โ€œWhat? Thatโ€™s nonsense.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not.โ€

โ€œHow so?โ€

โ€œIt was my idea.โ€

โ€œExcuse me? Why on earth would you come up with something like that?โ€

โ€œCalm down and donโ€™t worry about it.โ€

โ€œCome on. Youโ€™re dragging me into this.โ€

He knew it. Juan was up to no good.

โ€œDrake doesnโ€™t have the guts to send an invitation to you. Thatโ€™s why you go.โ€

โ€œWhat am I supposed to do there?โ€

โ€œTo crash the party.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s a good idea.โ€

Juan tapped the files on the desk. โ€œSpend the next two days memorizing this and every detail Iโ€™ve shared with you. Then youโ€™re off to raise hell. And bring Liza along. Make it a mess as best as you can.โ€

Garlandโ€™s mouth was agape.

Juan paused and added, โ€œIf Debra shows up, the plan can move forward ahead of schedule.โ€

โ€œPlan? What plan?โ€ Garland asked, clueless.

Juan said mysteriously, โ€œSheโ€™s your boss, isnโ€™t she? Itโ€™s about time you two got acquainted.โ€

โ€œAcquainted?โ€ Garland was even more puzzled.

โ€œJust strike up a conversation with her,โ€ Juan explained. โ€œThough knowing her, sheโ€™ll probably find you first.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€ Garland exclaimed.

Oblivious to his confusion, Juan said, โ€œIโ€™ll run you through the sequence of events again. Try to keep up.โ€

Garland was bewildered, unable to follow his train of thought.

The next day, around noon, Debra was jolted awake by a commotion outside. Marion had left early to handle some company affairs. From her bedroom window, she could hear shouting coming from the courtyard below.

โ€œNo one is inside. Just leave before we lose our patience,โ€ one of Marionโ€™s men bellowed. โ€œWe donโ€™t hit women, but donโ€™t push your luck here.โ€

โ€œOut of the way!โ€ the intruder snapped. โ€œI am Liza Eaton. I dare you to stop me!โ€
