Chapter 952
Bert's expression turned grave. A servant approached him. โSir, I heard that Miss Bernard is getting engaged to Drake. Invitations have been sent out, but Miss Eaton doesnโt know yet.โ
โKeep it that way,โ Bert ordered. โLiza is impulsive and might do reckless things if she finds out. Sheโs spoiled, but she values her friendship with Cathryn. It would break her heart to know Cathryn is with Drake now.โ
โUnderstood. Iโll make sure the news is contained,โ said the servant.
Juan silently watched the scene. Garland peeked through the door crack.
โWhatโs got you so captivated?โ
โNothing.โ
Juan sank back into the couch, his expression unreadable.
โYou know, Liza has a way with people,โ Garland said, his tone smug. โWhen she gets involved, your grandmother has to pack her things andโฆโ
โThatโs not what Iโm worried about.โ
โThen what are you worried about?โ
โDid you get the invitation?โ
โInvitation? What invitation?โ
โTo the engagement party of Cathryn and Drake.โ
โWhat? Thatโs nonsense.โ
โItโs not.โ
โHow so?โ
โIt was my idea.โ
โExcuse me? Why on earth would you come up with something like that?โ
โCalm down and donโt worry about it.โ
โCome on. Youโre dragging me into this.โ
He knew it. Juan was up to no good.
โDrake doesnโt have the guts to send an invitation to you. Thatโs why you go.โ
โWhat am I supposed to do there?โ
โTo crash the party.โ
โI donโt know if thatโs a good idea.โ
Juan tapped the files on the desk. โSpend the next two days memorizing this and every detail Iโve shared with you. Then youโre off to raise hell. And bring Liza along. Make it a mess as best as you can.โ
Garlandโs mouth was agape.
Juan paused and added, โIf Debra shows up, the plan can move forward ahead of schedule.โ
โPlan? What plan?โ Garland asked, clueless.
Juan said mysteriously, โSheโs your boss, isnโt she? Itโs about time you two got acquainted.โ
โAcquainted?โ Garland was even more puzzled.
โJust strike up a conversation with her,โ Juan explained. โThough knowing her, sheโll probably find you first.โ
โHuh?โ Garland exclaimed.
Oblivious to his confusion, Juan said, โIโll run you through the sequence of events again. Try to keep up.โ
Garland was bewildered, unable to follow his train of thought.
The next day, around noon, Debra was jolted awake by a commotion outside. Marion had left early to handle some company affairs. From her bedroom window, she could hear shouting coming from the courtyard below.
โNo one is inside. Just leave before we lose our patience,โ one of Marionโs men bellowed. โWe donโt hit women, but donโt push your luck here.โ
โOut of the way!โ the intruder snapped. โI am Liza Eaton. I dare you to stop me!โ
