Chapter 775
โMr. Lowe, calm down and think about it. Why would I drug you? And where would I even get something like that?โ Debra reasoned. โToday, you dragged me to buy a piano and new clothes right after I woke up. I barely had time to think before I ended up in that lounge, unconscious. Donโt you think itโs a bit ridiculous to suspect me?โ
His earlier rage had clouded his judgment, but now, Debraโs logic gave him pause.
โMr. Lowe,โ she added, โI understand youโre upset, but you should calm down and think about everything youโve eaten or drunk today.โ
She knew exactly what she was doing, planting seeds of doubt in his mind. Drakeโs face darkened as he remembered the tea from the lounge.
โKale,โ Drake called sharply, โGive that woman a good beating.โ
โYes, boss.โ Kale disappeared instantly, leaving Debra and Drake alone.
Debra got to her feet. โWell then, Iโll take my leave.โ
โWait,โ Drakeโs voice stopped her cold. โWho gave you permission to come to the third floor?โ
Debraโs pulse quickened, but she masked her fear with an air of nonchalance. โSomeone brought me up here. I was curious, so I followed. How was I supposed to know the third floor wasโฆโ
She trailed off, deliberately feigning reluctance. Drake sneered, โDidnโt you once say you wanted to stay here and make money? What, are you scared now?โ
Debra took a step back, playing along. โWho said I was scared? But what youโre doing here is illegal. If this is reported, your empire could come crashing down. Frankly, Iโm starting to wonder if working for you is worth it. I might end up in jail before I see any money.โ
Her words were bait, and Drake took it. โWhat do you think this place is? If anyone even thinks about reporting me, Iโll destroy them. Every secret and every leverage in this city is in my hands. Theyโd rather die than cross me.โ
Debraโs mind whirled as she remembered the hidden cameras Frederic had shown her earlier. Those cameras had captured everything, from every angle. No wonder no one dared to report anything. Not to mention Drake himself; the other guests would not risk exposing their secrets and letting that happen.
Drake suddenly came closer, interrupting her thoughts.
โIโll give you one more chance. If you want to refuse now, itโs not too late.โ
โRefuse what?โ
โRefuse to work for me.โ
โI wonโt.โ
Drake blinked, caught off guard by her determination.
Debra explained, โIโm penniless. I canโt contact anyone outside, and youโre using me to get at Marion. But you know what? I want revenge on that bastard even more than you do. Iโll stay and work for you, but I expect you to treat me fairly. After all, I might just be your best weapon against Marion.โ
