Chapter 768

Debraโ€™s heart skipped a beat. She narrowed her eyes. โ€œOppose Mr. Lowe? Is this a joke? In this city, who would dare stand against him?โ€

Avaโ€™s face tightened. That night, she had only overheard fragments of the conversation, but she was sure they were plotting to deal with Drake. She looked up at Drake and said urgently, โ€œShe is biding her time, waiting for her lover to rescue her. I was just trying to protect you and show you the kind of woman she truly is.โ€

Debra arched an eyebrow. โ€œAnd you have proof of this? Or is it just more of your words?โ€

Ava shot back, desperation creeping into her voice. โ€œNo, I saw it with my own eyes. Mr. Lowe, you canโ€™t keep her around you. Who knows if sheโ€™s been sent by your enemies to bring you down?โ€

Debra smirked, sarcasm lacing her tone. โ€œThatโ€™s funny. How could a weak woman like you pose any threat to Mr. Lowe? That makes him sound vulnerable, donโ€™t you think?โ€

Ava paled, and Debra turned her gaze to Drake. โ€œWhat do you think, Mr. Lowe?โ€

Drakeโ€™s expression remained unreadable. โ€œTake her away.โ€

โ€œYes, boss.โ€ Harland moved swiftly, seizing Ava by the arm.

Panic flooded Avaโ€™s face. โ€œMr. Lowe, please. Iโ€™m telling the truth. You have to believe me!โ€

โ€œJust go!โ€ Harland dragged her down the hall.

Debraโ€™s eyes followed them until they reached the elevator, noting the terrified look on Avaโ€™s face as the elevator ascended to the third floor. She wondered what was so scary on that floor.

Drakeโ€™s voice cut through her thoughts. โ€œYou have nothing else to say?โ€

Debra blinked and shrugged. โ€œSay what?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not going to explain what she said?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not buying into her nonsense, are you?โ€

โ€œWhat if I am?โ€

Drake stepped closer, his eyes narrowing.

โ€œFine, Iโ€™ll explain,โ€ Debra sighed dramatically. โ€œThat night, I let a mongrel take me away. He tried something in the square, and I struggled. Ava mustโ€™ve seen the commotion and misinterpreted it. She made it into this ridiculous tale, making you doubt me. I thought you, of all people, would see through such obvious lies. Can I take this for your jealousy?โ€

Drake scoffed, โ€œDonโ€™t flatter yourself.โ€

She grinned, โ€œLikewise.โ€

โ€œBut,โ€ he pressed, his tone more serious now, โ€œdid you tell him to gather people against me?โ€
