Chapter 72
โWho did this?โ Debra wondered aloud. If anyone was to be targeted, it should have been Shelia, yet Carrie ended up taking the fall. Despite the uproar, Shelia emerged unscathed.
Seeing Randy pass by with a plate, Debra grabbed his sleeve. โWait!โ
His mouth full, Randy turned and mumbled, โWhatโs up?โ
โDid you do it?โ Debra asked.
โDo what?โ Randy was puzzled.
โThe inspection team,โ Debra hinted.
Randy pondered. โItโs probably Marion.โ
โWould Marion bother with this?โ Debra recalled the encounter with Shelia and the others earlier. Maybe it was Marion, after all. But another question surfaced, distracting Debra. โAre you so broke that youโre eating here?โ This cafeteria didnโt seem like Randyโs usual spot.
โSaving where I can,โ Randy replied tersely.
No kidding. Marion had been throwing around billions and keeping the lights on in the entire office building all night. He had splurged on houses and lavish renovations, now planning to build a commercial street. In the last two weeks, Marion had almost maxed out Randyโs cards. Now Randy had to save money.
Debra invited Randy to join them. โWhy did Marion call in the inspection team?โ
โAs the saying goes, to kill someone is one thing, but to crush their spirit is far worse.โ
As Debra pressed, โBe specific.โ
โHe didnโt say much,โ Randy replied.
Debra chewed over the words. Marion was a wolf, fierce and cunning. There might be more to his actions. Turning to Jordan, Debra asked, โWhat happened afterward?โ
โNothing much. Shelia kept blaming Carrie. It was funny,โ he replied.
Debra came to understand Marionโs plan. Marion was even more cunning than sheโd imagined.
Chapter 72 (Continued)
Shelia couldnโt risk exposing her deeds, so Marion had the inspection team blame Carrie. If investigated, it would soon reveal Sheliaโs involvement. Afraid of exposure, Shelia would naturally divert blame to Carrie. This simple tactic had effectively driven a wedge between Shelia and her allies. Now Shelia couldnโt deny she had sold them out. Her allies had seen Sheliaโs true colors, and things were getting interesting.
Debra shared her thoughts with Randy and Jordan. Jordan scoffed, โWhy not just let them investigate directly and kick Shelia out of school?โ
Debra replied, โShelia could claim she feared I was stealing her boyfriend, continue to deceive everyone into thinking sheโs the victim, and create complications. Besides, her friends surely know many of her secrets. Once they turn against her, who knows what they might reveal?โ
Randy was puzzled. โHold on, Shelia has a boyfriend?โ
