Chapter 553
Early the next morning, Ben handed a stack of contracts to Debra.
โAs per your instructions, all our business partners have agreed to the plan. Theyโll contact Edgar and express interest in signing contracts with him. In return, weโll compensate them generously.โ
Debra nodded as she skimmed the documents, her lips curling into a small smile.
โIf they reach out to Edgar directly, itโll be too obvious,โ she remarked, tapping her fingers on the table thoughtfully. โLetโs leak a little information to lure him. Once he takes the bait, our partners can bleed Edgar dry. They donโt need to worry about anything else after that.โ
โWill Edgar fall for it?โ
โOh, he will,โ Debra said affirmatively. โAfter getting disrespected and humiliated, he will be desperate to prove himself. Once heโs fixated on a victory, he wonโt care how much money or effort he pours into it.โ
Ben nodded thoughtfully. โBy the way, thereโs something else I need to bring up.โ
โWhat is it?โ Debra asked, taking a sip of her tea.
โAndrewโs secretary reached out this morning. They wanted to discuss your debut.โ
Debra spat out her tea, which startled Ben.
โMadam, are you okay?โ
โIโm fine. Go on.โ
โWell, Mr. Andrew Potter said you signed a contract with him, so he wants you to drop by. He said thereโs no need for you to debut with a group; you can go solo. As for profits, heโs proposing a 70-30 split.โ
โAndrew is talking about money with me?โ
โThatโs what his secretary said.โ
Debra rubbed her temples and muttered under her breath, โWhat a vampire!โ
โMadam?โ
โItโs nothing.โ She wouldnโt dare badmouth Andrew behind his back. She had thought heโd forgotten about this whole debut business, but apparently, he was still clinging to the idea.
Trying to stay positive, Ben suggested, โHonestly, debuting might not be such a bad idea. Youโre still trending, and it would add another feather to the McKinney Groupโs cap.โ
โHave you ever seen a CEO take the stage as some sort of star?โ
Ben immediately shook his head, like a bobblehead on overdrive.
โExactly,โ Debra mumbled. โJust find some excuse, like telling him Iโm too busy with company matters and Edgar to consider anything else.โ
Ben didnโt catch the latter part of her speech. โPardon me?โ
Debra covered her face with her hands. She had to admit that she didnโt have the guts to outright refuse Andrew.
โNever mind. Just tell him Iโm free. He can arrange whatever schedule he wants, and Iโll go along with it.โ
โMadam, you donโt want to do this, do you?โ
โWhat does it matter what I want? The contract is in his hands.โ
โBut Mr. Andrew Potter is so fond of you. Even if thereโs a contract, he wouldnโt make things difficult for you if you refused.โ
โI know.โ
โThen whyโฆโ
โI gave him my word, and I canโt let him down.โ
