Chapter 524
โHalf a million a month. You wouldnโt even need to leave the house, and that should be enough.โ
โI donโt think so.โ Debra rested her chin in her hand, gazing at Juan with a tender expression. โJuan gives me a million every month and allows me to work.โ
โWhat?โ Melody shot a sharp look at Juan. Her tone turned serious as she asked, โJuan, is this true?โ
Juan knew Debra was saying this on purpose, but he calmly replied, โDebra can do whatever she likes. Grandma, you donโt need to worry about it.โ
โHow can I not worry? At my age, I expect to see the next generation being born. Youโre Juan. How could you keep such things from me?โ Melody sulked.
Debra chimed in, โDonโt be upset, Grandma. This is a private matter between us as a couple. Juan and I have already signed an agreement. We agreed that after remarrying, weโd be child-free.โ
Juan choked on his soup, while Melody was stunned.
โChild-free? Juan, how could you agree to such a thing?โ
Debra contentedly continued her meal, enjoying the shock on Melodyโs face. Juan rubbed his temples, sighing.
โGrandma, please, just eat your meal.โ
โHow can I eat at a time like this?โ Melodyโs faรงade of calm crumbled. She shot Debra a fierce look before turning away, aided by Sophie, as she left the dining room.
Now, only Debra and Juan remained alone in the spacious room. Debraโs expression shifted back to its usual coldness. She set down her fork and knife.
โIโm full.โ
She stood up to leave, but Juan caught her wrist.
โCome with me.โ
Juan got up, grabbed his car keys, and led Debra out. In the car, the air between them was thick with silence.
โI donโt plan on letting Grandma find out about our divorce. I need you to keep that quiet, and well, sheโs getting older.โ
โI understand perfectly well what youโre trying to say. As long as she doesnโt come after me, I wonโt make trouble for her.โ
โAlright.โ Juan parked the car in front of the Nichols familyโs ancestral home. Debra glanced at the house.
โWhyโd you bring me here?โ
โOn the day of our wedding, you were supposed to come here and pay respects to my parents.โ
โI see.โ Debra averted her gaze. In her past life, Juan hadnโt even acknowledged her as his wife, so this tradition had been skipped on their wedding day.
Juan led her into the house, whose long history was difficult to trace. It had been rebuilt so many times that no one could really say how long the Nichols family had lived there. Debra couldnโt help but think of the rumors surrounding the Four Great Families. Unfortunately, the Nichols family had only risen to power halfway through and probably had nothing to do with those influential clans.
As these thoughts ran through her mind, Juan led her up to the top floor, stopping in front of a room. Inside the room, there were photos of Juanโs parents and grandfather. Debra felt a wave of confusion. โAre those your parents and grandpa?โ
