Chapter 292
Randyโs gaze darted around the room as he deliberately avoided eye contact with Erica. She sensed something was amiss.
โDid something happen when you and Marion went abroad?โ
โNo, absolutely not. Donโt overthink it, and please, donโt mention it in front of Debra,โ Randy glanced around furtively, ensuring no one was within earshot. โLetโs not talk here. Come with me.โ
He grabbed Erica and led her out of the house.
โExplain yourself, Randy. Explain right now,โ Erica demanded.
Unbeknownst to them, Debra had overheard their exchange from the car. She rolled down the window, and Ben broke out in a cold sweat. After a moment of tense silence, he asked, โMadam, should we get out?โ
Debra didnโt respond. Her mind raced as she processed Randy and Ericaโs peculiar behavior. It was evident that something had transpired between Cathryn and Marion.
โLetโs get out.โ
โOkay,โ Ben responded, swiftly exiting the vehicle and opening the door for her.
Debra emerged from the car, a vision of elegance in her red gown. Her long, black hair cascaded down her back, and silver tassel earrings framed her face, accentuating her porcelain beauty. She instantly drew the attention of the crowd gathered outside the house.
โIsnโt that Ms. Frazier? Whatโs she doing here?โ
โDid you guys read the news? She survived a disaster and divorced Mr. Nichols at the funeral.โ
โSheโs attending this event and dressed so flamboyantly. Sheโs really got some nerve.โ
The rich ladies whispered among themselves.
A security guard stationed at the entrance held out his hand, halting Debra and Benโs progress. โPlease show me your invitation.โ
Ben presented an invitation with Tracyโs name on it. The guard scrutinized the invitation, his brow furrowing as he looked up at Debra, seemingly doubtful of her identity.
โMr. McKinney is caught up in something, and Ms. Frazier is here on his behalf,โ Ben explained.
The guard hesitated for a moment before stepping aside to let them pass. However, this only served to fuel the gossip surrounding Debraโs arrival, with many speculating about her relationship with Marion.
Inside the grand hall, all eyes were drawn to Debra as she made her entrance. Erica and Randyโs heated discussion also came to an abrupt halt.
โDโDebraโฆโ Erica stammered, her shock evident.
Debra offered her a warm smile. โErica, itโs been a while.โ
โIndeed.โ Erica realized something and rushed to Debraโs side, grasping her arm anxiously. โDebra, why are you here? You didnโt even give a heads-up.โ
Debra turned her attention to Randy, her eyebrow raised inquisitively. โYou didnโt seem to notify me either, did you, Randy?โ
Randy stumbled over his words. โIโI forgot.โ
Debra remained composed. โI came uninvited. Are you upset about it?โ
โHow so?โ Randy replied, his voice lacking conviction. โItโs great that youโre here.โ
His voice trailed off as he added, โItโs just not the right time.โ
Erica shot Randy a disapproving look. โWhat nonsense are you talking about?โ
Just then, the lights in the hall dimmed, and the chatter of the crowd hushed to a whisper. On stage, Marion emerged from a shadowed corner, his arm linked with that of Cathryn.
