Chapter 26
โThatโs just an employee from my company, helping to choose gifts. I thought girls might pick more carefully,โ Juan replied, looking at Debra with affection. If she hadnโt known Juanโs thoughts, she might have been fooled by his gaze.
Seeing their intimacy, Rosalie couldnโt hide her embarrassment. Sheโd heard that Juan was dating a college girl, and everyone knew Juan didnโt like Debra.
โJuan is not only talented but also cares for our Debra. I feel reassured that she is with you. Her father in heaven would also be reassured. And this is a family banquet; thereโs no need to be so formal,โ Ralph said, urging Juan to take a seat.
Debra held Juanโs arm and whispered, โDidnโt expect your acting skills to be quite good.โ
โLikewise,โ Juan said indifferently.
Rosalie felt uneasy, glancing at Juan and Debra from time to time, as if trying to spot any flaws.
โRosalie, is there something on my face? Why do you keep looking at me?โ Debra asked.
โMr. Nichols and you are quite affectionate, contrary to rumors,โ Rosalie said awkwardly.
โRumors are unreliable. How can you believe such nonsense?โ Debra said, picking up a chunk of meat for Juan. Juan preferred bland food, but he ate the meat nevertheless. Then he placed a piece of deboned fish in Debraโs bowl.
Rosalie forced a smile. โYeah, rumors are unreliable. Today I see how much Mr. Nichols cares for Debra.โ
Ralph observed their interaction and asked, โDebra, since when do you like steamed fish?โ
As if catching on, Rosalie looked at Debra and said, โI remember that Debra never eats steamed fish. You donโt know, Mr. Nichols?โ
โYouโre overthinking. Juan prefers bland food, so Iโve adapted my taste,โ Debra explained.
Rosalie didnโt buy it. Just as she was about to argue, Juan suddenly said, โSounds like you donโt want Debra and me to get along.โ
โOf course not. Iโm just concerned about you newlyweds.โ Rosalie lost her momentum, no longer daring to ask.
Debra remained silent, eating her food. Although this was the Frazier family banquet, everyone here was judging each other. She was the heiress to the Frazier family, so these people didnโt dare say anything to her face, but they were all waiting for her to slip up. Since her fatherโs death, they all wanted to be the next head. If something happened to her, they would quickly get a share of the legacy left by her father.
Chapter 26
In her last life, she longed for Juanโs affection. Now, she found her past self ridiculous. She had been so devoted to Juan, but he never reciprocated.
