Chapter 138
โGive me the car keys!โ Juan demanded. Joe froze, then reluctantly handed over the keys. Juan grabbed them and left the hospital, his face pale as he hurried away. Joe followed closely behind, watching as Juan got into his car and sped off. โSir!โ Joe called out. But Juan didnโt stop. Soon, the car disappeared.
Debra rested in bed at her apartment. Randy bustled in the kitchen, assisted by Erica. Marion sat on the sofa, quietly reading a newspaper. It was a heartwarming scene Debra cherished. After her parentsโ untimely deaths, she had been living with Ralphโs family. Everyone was guarded, and she hadnโt felt this kind of familial warmth in a long time. How she wished it could last forever!
Juan arrived outside the apartment building and called her, but no one answered. He gripped the phone so tightly his knuckles turned white. He got out of the car and headed towards the security office.
โSir, who are you looking for?โ asked the guard.
โDebra Frazier.โ
โAre you a friend of the homeowner?โ
โIโm her husband!โ Juan replied with restrained anger.
The guard was skeptical. He had just seen Debra go upstairs with her friends, and the man before him was unfamiliar.
โCould you ask her to come down? Or contact her to confirm?โ
Juan narrowed his eyes and produced a business card. It stated he was the CEO of the Nichols Group. The guard was surprised. Juan demanded, โCall her. Now.โ
โOkay!โ
The guard dialed the apartmentโs landline. Debra was resting; Erica and Randy were in the kitchen. Suddenly, the phone rang, catching Marionโs attention.
In the kitchen, Erica said, โAnswer the phone, Marion. Donโt disturb Debraโs sleep.โ
Marion hesitated, pressing his lips together. But the ringing was too loud, so he answered.
โHello? Who is this?โ
Marionโs calm voice made Juanโs face darken. The security guard felt a thrill. โThis is like catching adultery in the act! So exciting!โ
โWhereโs Debra?โ
Marion recognized Juanโs voice. Glancing at Debra sleeping on the bed, he smirked, โSheโs sleeping.โ
Veins bulged on Juanโs forehead. โLet her answer the phone!โ
โI donโt think she wants to hear your voice,โ Marion said nonchalantly.
โDebra is my wife! Our affairs are none of your business!โ Juan snapped through gritted teeth.
Marion set down his newspaper, fiddled with his lighter, and said indifferently, โItโs just a marriage of convenience. Iโll take care of everything for the woman I like.โ
