Chapter 110
Shelia wanted to leave immediately. Carrie grabbed her hand, teasing, โWhatโs the rush? Isnโt that your boyfriend? Heโs flirting with another woman right in front of you. As your friends, weโll stand up for you.โ
โCarrieโs right. Letโs go over there and demand an explanation.โ
Wendy and Carrie exchanged glances, eager for the drama between the wife and the mistress. Shelia shook her head desperately.
Not far away, the air grew heavy with Juanโs approach. Debra, however, seemed oblivious. โOh, isnโt that Shelia? Why arenโt you with Miss Miles? She doesnโt look well.โ
Juanโs face darkened. He couldnโt believe she wanted him to care about Shelia on such an occasion.
Erica, brimming with hostility, and Jordan scoffed, โJust now, Mr. Nichols came in holding another womanโs hand. I thought the Nichols family had a new hostess. Mrs. Nichols, why are you here all alone?โ His casual words dripped with sarcasm.
Debra smiled, unwilling to give Juan an easy escape. Juan grabbed Debraโs arm, pulling her close, and said icily, โDebra is my wife. The Nichols family will never change its hostess.โ
Everyone fell silent.
Debra frowned; Juanโs words were too assertive. She hadnโt planned on being the Nichols familyโs hostess for life.
โShelia! Whatโs wrong?โ
Carrieโs cry suddenly drew everyoneโs attention. Juan turned and saw Shelia collapsing into Carrieโs arms, her face pale. Regardless of Debraโs feelings, he rushed over and held Shelia. โJoe, send for the doctor. Hurry!โ
โYes, sir!โ Joe glanced intently at Shelia.
Debra sneered. Shelia had perfectly timed her faint. Those present understood the situation; even Joe suspected something was amiss. Only Juan remained oblivious.
Jordan was annoyed. โHe just left you like that?โ
โIsnโt that normal?โ Debra hadnโt expected Sheliaโs maneuver. Once Shelia was taken away, Carrie gave Debra a fierce look. Debra raised an eyebrow. It seemed these two believed Shelia fainted because of her.
โThis woman knows no shame. Shelia passed out because of her, and she still has the nerve to smile.โ Carrie couldnโt tolerate such mistresses who used their looks to seduce other peopleโs boyfriends. Wendy sensed something was amiss but couldnโt restrain Carrieโs impulsiveness.
As Debra and the others passed, Carrie sneered, โThe man is gone, yet someone still lingers here. Looks like sheโs trying to snag a few rich husbands.โ
Erica frowned, grabbed Debra, and turned to Carrie. โWho are you talking about?โ
โWho else could I be talking about? Everyone knows.โ Carrieโs attitude was bold. Wendy tugged at her sleeve, but Carrie shrugged her off and continued, โShe flirted with Jordan at school and now flaunts herself at this party. Itโs disgusting!โ
