Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen – Don’t Do It Again – 2

When we part, a stern look takes over his face, and I know what is coming: a lecture.

“Why are you out here alone? You are smarter than that. What would have happened if I didn’t show up?” he barks, the irritation evident in his voice.

He is in protector Dom mode. “I am sorry, sir. I should have stayed inside until you came and got me,” I whisper, my eyes to the ground.

Wyatt places his thumb on my chin and tilts my head back to make me look him directly in the eye. “You thinking? What if something happened to you? Then what would I do without you, huh?” He rambles, his eyes filling with… actually, I don’t know what. He is overreacting, but I find it sweet how much he worries and cares for me.

“Wyatt, I am fine. Nothing happened to me. I am sorry I put myself at risk,” I reply softly.

I can’t get mad at him for wanting to protect me.

“Please, don’t do it again,” he sighs.

“I promise. I won’t. Can you take me home now?”

He nods and kisses my forehead. “Where is your friend?”

“She ran into an old flame. The one that got away. They are reconnecting. I want to give them the space to do so.”

“Fate must have had other ideas.”

Wyatt takes my hand and leads me to his car. He makes sure I am safely in and closes the door behind me before he climbs into the driver’s seat. Wyatt leans over the top of me and says, “I was going to do that in a second.”

“A second when I could do it straightaway?” I stop myself from rolling my eyes. The man has no patience. I keep my mouth shut. He clicks his seatbelt in.

“My place or yours?”

We rarely spend time at my place; we usually end up at his. He nods and gets us on the road. I look out of the window, watching the city lights blur by. I love the city at night; it is stunning.

I think so. I don’t believe everything happens for a reason. I do believe if two people are supposed to be in one another’s lives, in any kind of relationship, they find their way to one another.

I wonder if he believes fate fought to bring us together, even though we initially dubbed each other… I shouldn’t ask him what I really want to do. It may make things awkward.

“Then I will stop at McDonald’s, and I’ll happily eat.” I offer him much-needed comfort, as I didn't see the pile of dripping…
