Chapter 271

Such feelings were impossible for Indya to ignore.

Outside the door, Blake didn’t really mind. After all, he had already confessed his feelings to Indya. No matter what choice she made, he could accept it.

What was more, he was confident in himself—so what if she didn’t like him now? Did current feelings define the future? Blake only glanced at Anthony briefly, gave a soft chuckle, and followed Sam downstairs. That wasn’t necessarily the end of the story.

Anthony stood in the corridor for a long time. Only when Indya finished tidying up the entire room—even making the bed for Blake—did she finally come out. The moment she opened the door, she saw Anthony still standing there. She paused, clearly impatient, didn’t say a word, and opened the room next door.

“This is the person you like?” asked Anthony.

“What does that have to do with you?” said Indya. “Anthony, you’re being really ridiculous. Linda likes you, and how many times has she been in and out of your room? Everyone in the project team knows it. You’re not seriously still trying to pursue me, are you?”

Anthony simply leaned against the doorway and didn’t try to come in. He knew Indya wouldn’t let him get too close—keeping a respectful distance was the best way to stay near her.

“I always thought the reason you hadn’t dated anyone all these years was because you still liked me. Now that I see Blake, I’m starting to think your taste has changed.”

“People change,” said Indya. “I used to like you only because I didn’t have any other choice. I started dating you right after university. Maybe back then, with the limited perspective I had, you were already the best option I saw.”

Indya paused slightly and sized up Anthony. She had to admit—she really was different now from how she used to be. Back when she was with Anthony, no matter how hard she worked, she was just an ordinary woman, wearing discounted clothes bought online; her appearance and style were plain. And Anthony was no better.

But look at her now. From head to toe, she wore nothing but luxury brands. Even without seeing the logos, just the quality of her lifestyle revealed her sophistication. It took wealth to create a woman like that.

“Anthony, I don’t believe that being with you could give me a better life. Don’t try to bring Blake into this. There’s no chance between you and me—it has nothing to do with anyone else.”

Downstairs, Jessica was sitting with Blake. Lunch was prepared by the project team along with a few people from the Wilder Group. Someone like Jessica, who didn’t know how to cook at all, had better stay out of the way.

“I did see people from Hurricane Media. From a distance, it looked like Collin’s sister—I’ve seen her on TV a few times before. Mandy doesn’t usually handle entertainment news, so I haven’t encountered her at work.”

“Yeah, Mandy used to be in charge of international news. It’s the same now that she’s back at Hurricane Media. It’s already good enough that Collin and Jasper allowed her to come. It’s dangerous out there—honestly, I still wish she’d stayed away from the site of the landslide.”

“I’ve dealt with situations like this before. Luckily, our crew had a rescue team this time, so I came along with them. It’s for the best—at least we can help, and there’s no need to say too much.” Jessica glanced at Blake.

She knew perfectly well that Blake had come for Indya. Everyone else was just along for the ride. Since nothing needed to be said, there was no need for gratitude either.

“Indya secured a brand endorsement for you—zero-emission vehicles. You know the brand. The contract is still being negotiated, but once we get back, it should be finalized. You just need to sign the contract,” said Jessica.
