Chapter 258
The news that Marcy had been detained quickly reached the Hall family as well.
Luke’s parents came in person, standing at the entrance trying to barge in, demanding to know where this “vixen” had taken their son.
At the same time, Roy hadn’t even had a chance to rest. He had just taken a cigarette out of the pack when the door burst open.
A subordinate rushed in and said, “Bad news, Captain Felton – the Hall family is making a scene. They’re demanding to see Marcy.”
Roy paused mid-motion and looked toward the door, clearly annoyed.
The door remained open, and they could vaguely hear shouting coming from far down the corridor – the person at the very front was Luke’s mother.
Luke’s mother’s last name was Zorro. In fact, Luke was originally from a collateral branch of the Hall family. He wasn’t part of the main family.
Amongst a group of mediocrities, Luke was the best they had, which was why Thomas had brought him into the Hall Group to help out – though he was only ever given small companies to manage. As for the real core business, Luke was never allowed anywhere near it.
Even so, Mrs. Zorro dreamed every day of replacing Lynsey’s position in the Hall family.
She had already been unhappy when Michael returned to Cheria and, upon hearing that Thomas didn’t value this son, she constantly encouraged Luke to cause trouble for Michael.
The way Luke ended up now had a lot to do with Mrs. Zorro.
Standing at the doorway, Mrs. Zorro pointed at the police officers who were trying to block her and began cursing loudly. “You’ve already caught that vixen, so why haven’t you found my son yet? What the hell are you all doing? Do you think you’re worth the taxes that we pay?”
The officers‘ faces darkened under her insults, and one was about to respond when Roy walked out, cigarette unlit between his lips.
“Be quiet. Do you even know where you are? This isn’t the place for you to act out.” Roy’s voice completely overpowered Mrs. Zorro’s.
His sleeves were rolled up twice at the cuffs, and a Patek Philippe watch gleamed on his wrist. It was obvious that the watch was expensive.
Mrs. Zorro wanted to keep yelling, but Frank Hall gave her a tug. He shot her a glare. She clearly didn’t realize who she was dealing with.
Yelling at the rest of the police might be tolerated, but Roy was different.
He wasn’t just the head of the criminal investigations team that might not be terrifying enough – but his identity as the rightful heir of the Felton family was unshakable to this day.
Even though Nina had held the reins at FN for many years, it was still widely rumored that if Roy ever resigned and returned home to claim the inheritance, he would be the undisputed power-holder.
There was no helping it – nowadays, men were still seen as more legitimate heirs than women.
“Captain Felton, is there any news about my son?” Frank stepped forward cautiously, nervously pulling out a lighter to try to light Roy’s cigarette.
Roy raised his hand, palm outward, interrupting Frank’s flattery. He took the cigarette out and held it lightly between his fingers.
“Stop calling her a ‘vixen‘ every time you address her. Whether or not that girl was even willing to be with Luke is still in question. Besides…” Roy’s lips curved slightly. “Even if Luke is found and brought back, he still won’t be going anywhere – he’s facing a murder-for-hire charge.”
Mrs. Zorro’s face went deathly pale in an instant.
Frank, at least, kept his composure and straightened his posture, staring at Roy, trying to determine whether he was bluffing – but it was clear Roy wasn’t joking or trying to scare him.
“Captain Felton, you can’t make accusations like that,” said Frank, sweating through his palms and clenching his fists unconsciously. “My son is the victim here. He’s missing, and now you’re saying he’s involved in murder?”
Roy lowered his gaze to study the couple standing before him. He was tall – around 6.2 feet – and towered over the slightly hunched Frank.
“According to Marcy – your son’s mistress – she had a boyfriend. But your son took a liking to her, so he hired someone to run over her boyfriend after getting drunk. Marcy even has a recording – your son even admitted it himself.”
