Chapter 39

Jack's bodyguards approached Dustin. Before inheriting the family business, Jack had been an arrogant, worthless bully, relying on his family's power to intimidate others. He'd hired the two bodyguards, paying them exorbitant salaries. Over the years, they'd helped him deal with numerous people who'd offended him. Jack disdained Dustin, a mere assistant. After giving his bodyguards their orders, he didn't bother to look at Dustin again. He raised his wine glass, took a sip, but before he could swallow—

Bam! Bam!

Two dull thuds echoed. He smirked, looked up, and was stunned into silence. His bodyguards lay sprawled on either side of the couch.

"What?" Jack frowned, looking at Dustin in surprise. Then, his face darkening, he said, "Ha! I must admit, you're pretty good."

He set down his wine glass and said nonchalantly, "Do you know who I am? If not, ask Simone. Those who offend me face two fates: they break their own limbs to appease me, or…" He glared at Dustin. "My gang associates help me eliminate at least a dozen people." Dustin raised an eyebrow. So, his cockiness stemmed from gang connections?

"In ten seconds, I don't want to see you standing here," Jack said coldly. He flung his wine glass to the floor, shattering it. He then pointed to the shards. The implication was clear: he wanted Dustin to kneel on the glass and apologize.

Dustin smiled mockingly and took a few steps forward. Jack, believing Dustin would apologize, said aggressively, "If your knees don't bleed, I'm not accepting your apology, you ignorant bastard!"

Dustin kicked the sofa, flipping it over. Jack was sent flying, crashing to the floor.

"Ahh!" he roared, his face contorted with rage. "You bastard! Do you want to die?!"

"You're the one with a death wish!" Dustin's face was murderous.

A chill ran down Jack's spine. He was terrified. Who exactly was Simone's assistant? Why did this person seem more terrifying than any gang leader he'd encountered?

"Dustin!" Simone cried out, worried he would kill Jack and ruin his own future. "Jack is the Zimmer family's heir. If anything happens to him, the family will go berserk!" she said anxiously.

"She's right! If you hurt me, the Zimmer family will retaliate! You won't be the only one to suffer. Simone will be finished!" Jack cackled, attempting to threaten him. "If you have any sense, you'll immediately—" Cough! Dustin's foot pressed down on his chest, forcing him to cough up blood.

Jack couldn't believe it. Had Dustin lost his mind? Was he truly unconcerned about the Zimmer family's vengeance?

Simone sighed in resignation. She knew Dustin's nature. Jack had only himself to blame for repeatedly provoking him. Even if she'd wanted to save him, she couldn't.

"You…" Jack pointed, his face pale with rage.

"Who ordered you to do this?" Dustin asked icily.

"Ha!" Jack endured the pain, sneering mockingly. "Who ordered me? You look down on us! No one in Rivenesco would dare order my family around."

Dustin pressed his foot down harder; Jack gasped for air.

"Wrong answer," Dustin said coldly.

"You have a death wish!" Jack stubbornly argued.

Dustin's face hardened, and he stomped down on Jack's arm.
