Listen to this chapter:

After dinner, Matthew casually collected the cutlery and plates before taking them to the kitchen.

That morning, during the cleaning, the dishwasher was delivered. Mia helped bring it inside. Matthew wanted to try it immediately.

"Mr. Grant, there are only two plates and a pot," Valerie said. "I'll just wash them." She thought using the dishwasher was too much trouble.

Matthew, however, insisted. "We should give it a try," he said. He abhorred greasy dishwashing.

Valerie couldn't dissuade him, so she let him load the dishwasher with the plates, cutlery, and pot. Soon, the machine's hum filled the kitchen.

The couple stood before the dishwasher, each with a cup of hot coffee, enjoying the ease of not having to wash dishes. Even Valerie had to admit, "The dishwasher is truly amazing! It would be even better if it were cheaper."

Valerie rested, then walked on the treadmill. She'd heard music positively influences unborn children, so she'd collected some to listen to while exercising. To avoid Matthew's suspicion, she used earphones.

She thought, "But now a new problem arises. If I wear earphones, can the baby hear the music? If not, it won't have a positive effect. But if I put the earphones on my belly Just thinking about that makes me laugh! Oh, and if I start learning music, I wonder if my thoughts can be transmitted to the baby. Maybe we'll both learn!"

Valerie, a first-time mother with little experience, wasn't sure if this was feasible, but decided to try. She downloaded a piano simulator and found beginner sheet music.

As Matthew emerged from the shower, he heard awkward piano sounds from the balcony. The notes were disjointed, and accidental key presses created a cacophony.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

Valerie, startled, saw Matthew leaning against the doorway, looking at her indifferently. Embarrassed by her poor playing, she said, "I'm just playing around. You're done showering, huh?"

Matthew walked toward her, maintaining his serious expression. Only when he placed his hand on the phone screen did she understand. His fingertips danced across the screen, and a melodious rendition of "Canon" filled the air.

"Mr. Grant, you know how to play the piano?" Valerie asked, astonished by his slender, elegant fingers. She thought, "If he played a real piano, it would be even more stunning!"

Matthew said, "I used to practice. There's no secret to playing the piano. Don't be afraid of failure. Practice enough, and even if you can't express the emotion, you can still play the melody. Your problem is that you practice too little."

Valerie didn't fully understand, but she knew he wanted her to practice more. She hastily smiled and waved, saying, "No need. Just playing around on a whim. Besides, I've never learned to play piano."

After playing the piano, she realized that even with constant practice throughout her pregnancy, she wouldn't be as skilled as Matthew. She thought, "On the contrary, my playing is so awful that it won't have a positive influence; it may even irritate the baby!"

Valerie was about to put away her phone when Matthew said, "You said you've never learned piano?"

Valerie nodded frankly. "I've never learned." There was no shame in this; she'd never hidden her rural upbringing or average family's financial limitations.

"How did you manage to understand the sheet music then?" Matthew asked.

Valerie was startled. Only then did she realize she'd been reading actual piano sheet music. She was bewildered. "Yeah," she thought, "How did I understand the sheet music?"
