Chapter 7
“Oh my goodness, you guys came all the way because of Penelope? I’m really sorry about that. It was unnecessary for you to make the trip. There’s nothing serious, just some family conflicts we can handle ourselves. You can go back now!”
The police officer looked at her as if she were a fool and said, “Are you two a couple? Please provide your identification as well. No matter what the reason is, physically assaulting someone is a crime. We received a report of someone being assaulted, and we are here to handle the case of this illegal act. Stop talking and come with us to identify the person who assaulted you.”
As soon as Kolby heard that he was being taken away, he angrily threw his ID card onto the coffee table, sat on the sofa, and argued. “I’ve already said that this is our family matter, why do police have the right to interfere? I hit her for her own good, it’s a matter of teaching a younger generation by an elder, how is that breaking the law? What relationship do you have with her that you’re taking her side?”
The police officer frowned and warned him to be more careful with his words.
Kolby, on the other hand, became unreasonable and shouted at the police, “I was right, wasn’t I? Even the police should be reasonable, right? As an elder, what’s wrong with teaching the younger generation a lesson? Isn’t that supposed to be the case? This woman is living in my son’s house, spending my son’s money, and in the end, she tells us that they won’t get married? What kind of reasoning is this?”
“That’s right!” Scarlet said, hands on hips. “After spending so much money on my son, it’s only right that we teach her a lesson. And she even wants to kick us out! Who does she think she is?”
Drew stood silently behind, his face already pale.
At this moment, the door opened again and a woman walked in, dressed in gold and silver, with an exaggerated appearance. Two middle-aged men in well-tailored suits followed behind her.
The woman was my mother; I didn’t know the two men behind her.
But the police officers present recognized them. “Hey, Darren, Anthony, you both came together?”
The two lawyers exchanged a few pleasantries. Darren Cline informed the police officer that he was accompanying Ms. Lynch to handle the matter.
Drew had met my mom before, hesitantly calling her “Auntie.” Scarlet and Kolby looked my mom up and down, but she didn’t mind. She pulled me to sit on the sofa and gently patted my shoulder.
The powerful aura had completely influenced the atmosphere at home. My mom looked at Scarlet and Kolby with a smiling face and said, “You are Drew’s parents, right? I am Penelope’s mom, Jasmin Lynch. Finally, I get to meet you!”
Before the elderly couple could speak, my mother turned to Drew and said, “Drew, I was just outside the door listening for a while. Your parents said Penelope has spent quite a bit of money from you, right? I brought some here, take…”
She took out a stack of cash from his bag and put it on the coffee table, totaling one hundred thousand. “See if it’s enough.”
Drew kept waving his hand and didn’t dare to lift his head because he knew that during the six months we were together, I never spent a single penny on him!
It was Scarlet who swiftly moved the bundle of cash over, feeling and touching it repeatedly. Her greedy gaze made me feel sick.
My mother didn’t care either, and she took out another property certificate and placed it on the coffee table.
“I just heard you guys say that this house was Drew’s? When did the house become Drew’s? Why didn’t I know?”
“What do you mean? This house was rented by my son!”
“Oh, really? Well, take a look at this!” Scarlet and Kolby eagerly opened the property deed and were astonished to see my name on it, their eyes widening in surprise.
The two of them were not sure and asked the police to help verify the authenticity.
The police officer confirmed that the property deed was genuine, and Drew was taken aback. “Penelope… Is this house yours? Did you buy it? Weren’t you saying that the company rented it for you?”
