Chapter 58

Theodore entered with striking handsomeness and aristocratic grace. The store's customers froze, silencing their conversations and turning to watch him. The Edwards family lived up to their reputation as Maeloria's elite. The unspoken tension and respect in Theodore's presence reflected both the family's influence and his own status in Maeloria.

Patrick patted Debra's hand, then quickly greeted Theodore with a smile, "Mr. Edwards." His greeting felt oddly incongruous with the recent spat.

Theodore's eyes widened in disbelief at the sight of Patrick. How was he here? What was his connection to the Carter family?

Theodore scanned the venue, spotting Rebecca. His gaze was intense as he stared at her. Debra furrowed her brow, subtly pulling Rebecca behind her.

Patrick, ever smiling, said, "Mr. Edwards, the seating has been arranged. This way, please."

"Are you a member of the Carter family?" Theodore asked coldly.

Patrick smiled. "Mr. Edwards, you overestimate me. While my last name is Carter, I'm just a worker for the family." He was, in fact, working hard for his wife. "But I manage much of the Carter family's business in the country." He smiled again. "This way, Mr. Edwards."

Theodore nodded and followed. Jenny, holding his arm, examined the store's dรฉcor with Zentiscape curiosity.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was about to begin. The host of Carter's Jewel delivered a lengthy speech detailing the company's history and achievements. The staff soon reminded them of the approaching time, prompting the host to conclude.

"We are delighted to have you all here for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of Carter's Jewel. Now, please join me in welcoming our spokesperson, Mr. Charlie Carter and Ms. Rebecca Mitchell!"

Theodore's eyes widened. Rebecca was the spokesperson for Carter's Jewel? Why? Why would they choose her?

His gaze shifted to Charlie, standing beside Rebecca. His last name was Carter, and he was with the Carter family. Could it beโ€ฆ? Was Charlie part of the Carter family? Had he given Rebecca this position? And Patrick and Debra? Their staunch defense of Rebecca made sense; they were the Carter family's lackeys, obeying their master's commands, defending Rebecca on Charlie's behalf against the Edwards family.

Theodore recalled how Patrick and Debra had bought the villa next to his. Did they actually buy it, or did it belong to Charlie? A celebrity like Charlie wouldn't risk buying a house under his own name, especially one forโ€ฆ a mistress. Was Rebecca Charlie's secret lover? Had they bought the house to taunt him, or were they simply brazen?

Theodore's anger simmered. He felt like stripping Rebecca bare with his eyes to see if any decency remained. Sheโ€™d been talking about divorce lately. She must be dreaming of marrying Charlie. What a shameless fool!

Suddenly, Rebecca felt Theodore's intense gaze. It felt predatory, as if he would devour her. She felt her throat constrict.

"Don't be afraid," Charlie reassured her.

"Let's step outside," Debra murmured, guiding Rebecca away.

With Charlie's comfort and Debra's support, Rebecca's fear subsided. She had her family; she didn't need to fear Theodore.

"Be confident. Today is a milestone for us as the spokesperson of Carter's Jewel," Charlie encouraged, flashing a bright smile.

Rebecca nodded resolutely. "You're right."

They proceeded to the front. Amidst curious gazes and flashing cameras, they cut the ribbon, heralding the grand opening. Rebecca smiled confidently, noticing Theodore among the guests. Her confidence soared. After the ceremony, they were ushered inside for a break.

The crowd moved to the hotel for the banquet. Unlike the exclusive ribbon-cutting ceremony, the banquet was more open. Janet had secured an invitation.

After the ceremony, Janet arrived with a regular invitation. She easily blended into the banquet. Rebecca and her family were busy greeting guests and hadn't noticed Janet's arrival. It wasn't until Rebecca saw Janet that she paused, perplexed. How had she gotten in? The Carter family hadn't invited the Mitchells.

Janet, however, saw this as an opportunity. She wondered if Theodore knew about Rebecca and Charlie. The thought brought immense satisfaction.

Approaching with a glass of wine, she said, "Hey, long time no see! Heard you're the face of Carter's Jewel now? Impressive, congratulations." Rebecca's smile faded; she was uninterested.
