Isabella gasped, staring at the recovered evidence. Destroyed, yet here it was. But she couldn't act alone. "Carly," she said, arriving at Carly's house, "we need to talk."
Carly was equally stunned. "Go to court again? Sue him?" Isabella asked.
Carly nodded firmly.
Connor appeared, his face grim. "Why sue? Isn't the embarrassment enough?" He lunged for the flash drive Carly clutched, but Isabella shielded her.
"Give it to me!" Connor yelled.
"What are you going to do?" Isabella demanded, her eyes narrowed.
"Carly, give me the drive!" Connor repeated, his gaze venomous.
Carly slipped the drive into her pocket. "This is none of your business!" she snapped.
"None of my business? The humiliation I've endured! I can't face anyone!" Connor raged, his eyes burning with contempt. "Have some shame and throw it away! Forget this ever happened!"
Tears welled in Carly's eyes. "Why should I be ashamed? I was forced! I'm a victim, too! If you're so ashamed, let's get a divorce!"
Isabella watched, horrified. Before she could react, Connor raised his hand to strike Carly. Isabella was faster, slapping him hard across the face.
Connor stared, speechless. "Isabella, you hit me?"
"Why shouldn't I?" Isabella retorted, her voice trembling but firm. "Ask yourself if you deserve to be my brother-in-law after what you've done!"
"Stay out of this!" Connor snarled, lunging for Isabella.
Carly, fueled by rage, slapped him. The sisters fought back, a whirlwind of fists and feet, knocking Connor to the ground. Carly even grabbed a vase, but Isabella stopped her.
Connor, seeing their fury, recoiled. Isabella, remembering Adrian's words about strength, watched his fear. Their previous meekness had only emboldened him; now, his fear was palpable.
"Carly," Isabella said, "let's get you out of here. Move in with us. Adrian can help with your case."
Carly nodded wearily. The sight of Connor's cowering form felt both ridiculous and pathetic. Their once loving life was a bitter memory. The divorce, delayed for evidence gathering, was finally within reach. Three months of meticulous documentation of Connor's abuse had armed her. Domestic violence was grounds for an uncontested divorce, Adrian had confirmed. She was done.
