Chapter 101

"You still won't agree to a divorce?" Rebecca asked incredulously, her voice trembling.

As she spoke, Rebecca picked up the divorce agreement and stood, ready to leave. What was the point of wasting time if they weren't going to divorce? Debra stood, preparing to leave as well.

"Rebecca, I came here to discuss the divorce!" Theodore exclaimed anxiously, grabbing Rebecca's arm.

Debra swiftly produced a self-defense baton and struck Theodore's arm, freeing Rebecca.

Theodore recoiled, his face changing instantly. Glaring at Debra, he turned to Rebecca, pleading, "Let's sit down and talk this through."

"Rebecca, there are many things that need clarification to avoid future regrets," he continued urgently. "Andโ€ฆ even if you don't consider my sake, think of our children. Do you really want them to grow up without a father?"

Rebecca scoffed coldly. "Theodore, how dare you bring them up?"

Theodore's anger flared. "Rebecca, stop being so unreasonable! Yes, I suggested abortion, but that was when you were three months pregnant. The embryo was small then, but now they're born, things have changed! They are living, breathing beings, and they're my children. I should be a good father to them, don't you think?"

Debra kicked Theodore in the midsection. He stumbled, losing his balance and crashing forward into a waiter arriving with their drinks. The door swung open, and Theodore's head collided with it, the waiter spilling scalding coffee all over him.

Theodore, in pain, trembled and scrambled away. Once he regained his composure, his face darkened with anger.

"Sir, are you alright?" the waiter asked nervously, assisting Theodore. "Did you get burned?" he inquired anxiously, wiping the spilled coffee.

Rebecca was taken aback by Debra's decisive move.

"Let's go," Debra said firmly, taking Rebecca's hand and leading her out. Rebecca followed.

Theodore reached out, catching Rebecca's hand. Remembering the baton, he quickly released her, apprehensive about touching her again. "I'll sign it," he ground out through clenched teeth.

Today was about finalizing the divorce to marry Jenny; otherwise, his father wouldn't support him, and Gifford would inherit the company shares.

Rebecca and Debra were surprised by his resolve. Theodore appeared utterly disheveledโ€”Rebecca had never seen him so defeated. A year ago, she might have felt sorry for him, but now she felt strangely indifferent. She almost believed he deserved it.

They returned to the room. The waiter discreetly exited. Rebecca retrieved the divorce agreement and handed it to Theodore.

He flipped through it, scrutinizing the contents. His brow furrowed. "Rebecca, I can't agree to you having sole custody. I'm their father, and I have a right to be part of their lives."

Debra interjected, "You've said enough. Are you signing it? This is our only offer. Sign it, or we can drag this out. We have all the time in the world."

Theodore closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and turned to Debra with a cold smile. "If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it Charlie who exposed the Edwards family's illegitimate children scandal? Is Charlie planning this so he can marry Rebecca?"

Debra frowned. "Why do you talk such nonsense?"

Theodore looked at Rebecca. "If my sources are correct, Charlie's mother has been arranging blind dates for him with women from prestigious families. Rebecca, do you really think you can marry him and become the head of a wealthy family?"

Theodore handed over the agreement, picked up a pen, and signed it. Driven by self-interest, he was willing to give up everything.

Debra was surprised. She quickly checked the signed document and handed it to Rebecca, who signed it.

With the agreement settled, the Courthouse process would be simpler. Debra checked her phone. It was 4 PM; the Courthouse closed at 5:30 PM. They had enough time.

"Why don't we head to the Courthouse now? You can get the divorce license next month!" Debra exclaimed.

Rebecca nodded. Theodore frowned.

They left for the Courthouse. The divorce office was bustling. Debra pulled out her phone and distributed $200 to couples ahead of them in line, politely asking if they could move up.

The couples, resigned to their own marital endings, readily agreed. Debra was nervous; only she knew how much effort it had taken to get Theodore to agree. They had endured so much, and now, he was pushing for it, even giving up custody. This needed to be swift.
