Chapter 28

Although Barry didn't know the old man, he stood up when he saw everyone else do so. "Mr. Camidge!" Lucas Lobelius, standing beside Barry, greeted the elder first. Greetings from the others filled the meeting room, spoken with great respect.

Barry frowned slightly at Carlos. Lucas immediately poked Barry under the table, whispering, "Watch your expression!"

"Mr. Lobelius, I think I've seen this man before," Barry murmured, noting Carlos's familiar appearance.

"Mr. Camidge is Mr. Zabinski's butler; he doesn't appear often," Lucas hissed. "Don't overthink it! Many want to meet him. Just wait your turn!"

Barry nodded, remaining silent. The elder who entered was indeed Carlos.

Carlos walked to the head of the long table and gestured for everyone to sit. They thanked him before doing so. However, instead of sitting at the head of the table, Carlos sat in the chair beside it. This shocked everyone; their eyes widened in surprise.

They wondered aloud, "Mr. Camidge is sitting beside the main seat. Who could get him to do that? Could Mr. Zabinski be arriving today?"

Anticipation filled the room once more.

"Everyone," Carlos said.

Silence fell. Everyone listened intently.

"Considering your status, there's no need for excessive formality today," Carlos began. "But you've likely heard that Mr. Zabinski will be taking over the family business. He wishes to meet you all. Before he arrives, I need to explain a few things."

Carlos scanned the faces of those present. His usual kind demeanor, often shown to Robert, was replaced with a sharp gaze. No one dared meet his eyes directly.

He continued, "Mr. Zabinski will assume complete control of the Zabinski family's affairs. Remember—complete control. Do not question his decisions, or harbor any dissenting opinions. I believe you understand."

"Yes, we understand," Lucas replied, nodding repeatedly.

The others hastily agreed, showing no sign of dissent.

Carlos nodded slightly and said nothing. The room fell silent again.

After about three minutes, footsteps sounded outside. Nervousness rippled through the room. The door opened slowly, and all eyes turned to the entrance.

A young, slightly immature face appeared.

Barry exclaimed, "Robert!"

Lucas hissed, "Shut up!"

Barry, realizing his outburst, fell silent. Everyone stood.

Robert entered and went straight to the head of the table. Carlos rose and pulled out the chair for him. Robert sat.

The future head of the Zabinski family had arrived.

Barry watched Robert's progress, his mind blank. He finally recognized Carlos—the man who had congratulated Robert on his graduation the previous day.
